Team GB’s Tommy Searle was undoubtedly one of the crowd favourites at the weekend’s 2024 Motocross of Nations at Matterley Basin, which will probably be the veteran British rider’s last, but the 35-year-old certainly didn’t disgrace himself racing against the world best in the rammed MXGP class he finished 15th out of 36 in Saturday’s qualifying race.
Then, in his first main moto on Sunday, the Dirt Store Kawasaki racer fought hard without goggles for a good portion of the race to finish 23rd. Cheered on by the huge crowd, Tommy would line up in the third and final moto on a grid full of 450 racers and would come home in 25th, just one spot behind his former British Championship rival Harri Kullas.
Searle, who retired from the World scene five years ago, said of the support he and Team GB had at the weekend on social media, “What a weekend! Massive THANK YOU to everyone that supported TeamGB every lap all the way around the track! The support this weekend was some of the best ever and it was great to be apart of it. I’d have loved to have been better and given you all more to cheer about on my side but that’s all I had on the day with 12 overall in my Class and 12th overall for TeamGB.”

Tommy was also quick to praise his teammates, with Conrad Mewse a rider on everyone’s lips with two stunning charges through the field on Saturday and Sunday before braving a broken bone in his ankle in the final moto, “@conradmewse426 and @maxanstie were both on good form and done everyone proud. Unfortunate that Max went down but fair play to Conrad who showed the world what he can do at that level!!
Searle also thanked his Dirt Store Kawasaki team, who once again had his bike and the paddock set up looking immaculate saying “Thanks again and a shout out to my Team @dirtstorekawasaki @nick_dirtstore and @jongiffard @jorinwoolmer_18 for the effort they put in with the limited time we had getting a 450 ready to go.🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 @teamgbmxon”
