Tim Neave ready to take on the world at Kings Lynn FIM Flat Track World Championship Round - Preview

The best flat track riders in the world will descend on King’s Lynn in Norfolk next Saturday (24 August) to race for glory at the third round of the FIM Flat Track World Championship.

A truly international field of 23 riders from 14 different countries will go head-to-head on the shale at King’s Lynn Speedway’s Norfolk Arena in a bid to challenge America’s Sammy Halbert who leads the points standings after the two previous rounds in Italy and Germany.

The British charge will be led by Lincolnshire’s Tim Neave who currently holds P4 in the points, while newly-crowned British Champion Jack Bell will be eager to impress on home soil after taking his first Pro class win at Mallory Park last month.

Also flying the flag for Great Britain and looking to make local track knowledge count, will be former British champion Gary Birtwistle. He’ll be making his debut on the flat track world stage as a Wildcard entry.

Although Halbert – a former AMA Grand National Champion and X-Games gold medalist – is expected to be one of the front-runners in Norfolk, flat track fans can expect two-time world champion Lasse Kurvinen from Finland to challenge hard, as well as reigning world title holder Ervin Krajcovic from Czechia.

Also expected to challenge for the top positions will be a pair of Spanish riders that regularly travel to race in the UK and will be well known to British fans; 2022 world champion Gerard Bailo Pelegrin and rising star Eric Reverte who is the other wildcard rider.

ACU Secretary General, Matthew Edwards-Wear, said: “As the host federation, we’re delighted to be welcoming a world-class flat track racing field back to the UK for the third round of the FIM world championship.

“The entry list for this latest fixture is hugely impressive and I know the riders will put on a spectacular show for the UK fans under the King’s Lynn lights. It will be interesting to see how our British contingent of Tim, Jack and Gary fare on home soil.”

The ultimate winner on the night will be decided via 12 qualifying heats, a last-chance heat and a Grand Final which will be contested by the eight top riders on the night.

The first race is scheduled to start at 19.00 under the King’s Lynn floodlights, although the gates will open at 15.30 – just before practice starts at 16.00.

Tickets are available on the gate. Admission prices are £20 for adults, £5 for children (11-15 years-old). Under 11s are free if accompanied by a paying adult.
