In front of a large crowd, the competition to stand on the podium at the second round of the series, held in bright sunshine at Canada Heights was so strong that nearly all new faces appeared compared to the opening round three weeks ago.

So strong is the competition in the MX1 class that HM Plant KTM UK teamster, Kevin Strijbos had a slight off day which was enough to keep him off the podium at the end of the day, but he still heads back to the Low Countries and the first GP of the year next weekend with the red plate after recording finishes of 9-2-2. It was tight at the top with just two points separating the top four riders at the end of a hard days racing.

However, it was the Latvian smiler, Matiss Karro (STR KTM) who backed up his pole position in the morning qualifying sessions, with his first MX1 overall win. Crashing early on in the opening moto with Strijbos and several others, his 8-1-3 tally was enough for the win, but only by virtue of a better performance in the last race to edge Stephen Sword (Tyco Suzuki by TAS) off the top step after both tied with 58 points.

Sword led for two thirds of the opening moto before being ground down by Marc De Reuver (Lanes Kawasaki) but his 2-3-5 result was his strongest this season. De Reuver pulled out of the second moto which possibly cost him a podium place. Lurking just one point behind at the end of the day was Shaun Simpson (Monster Energy Bike It Yamaha) who was involved in a crash with many riders at the start of the second moto but came back to an important ninth which included being the fastest rider on the circuit in the closing stages, to back up his first race third and a final moto win.

The Championship now has a five week break whilst the top teams go on the Grand Prix trail and return at Lyng in Norfolk on May 6th.
