The South West Motocross Club in new hands!

The South West Motocross Club in new hands!

The famous South West Motocross Club is in new hands after the former committee and Chairman decided to stand down at their AGM in February.

This decision was not made lightly after working very hard to keep the club going in 2024. The announcement was made public on Facebook before the AGM, and asked for people to stand forward to form a new committee to run the club, but unfortunately, there was very little interest in doing so.

After hearing this news and with the club likely to fold, Russell Watts and Mark Fenner stood forward to keep the club going and alive with the help of their families and the Southerly MXC committee.

South West MXC will now be affiliated with and run under Nora Motorsport. Although there are no current plans to run a Championship in 2025, an open meeting could be on the cards later this year, and the club’s future for 2026 and beyond is looking bright.

Russ Watts said of the takeover, “I think I am right in saying Southwest Motocross Club started in the mid-Seventies.

I am sure most people will agree that this club has way too much history to fold and disappear, as we have seen so many clubs do over the last few years.

Like many riders in the South West, my relatives and I have ridden for South West MX Club over the years, as have big names like Todd Kellett, Josh Gilbert, Conrad Mewse, and many more.

Seeing the club continue is very important to me, after being involved and running it for over 10 years and working hard to make South West MXC one of the biggest youth motocross clubs in the country at the time.

I have no plans to run a 2025 South West MXC championship because many riders in the South West now have other commitments, but I will try to run an open race event later in the year if I can find a free date.

I would like to thank Louise, Jon, and the Ardren family for all their hard work keeping the club going over the last few years. I know it’s not easy.

I will now be working on a few ideas and what’s best for the club’s future.

See you all soon
