Adrian De Hutton began racing motorcycles in 1977 on an RM80, he switched to racing bicycles in 1981 and then returned to racing MX until 1996. His love for the early days of MX has fuelled his passion for restoring vintage MX bikes and in his spare time he likes to travel overseas to select vintage MX races and for 2023 VMXdN Foxhill is one of those. Adrian will use his years of experience as manager for Team South Africa.
After injury in 2022 and taking the difficult decision to take early retirement from competitive racing David Goosen is back… Speaking to the VMXdN Foxhill promotional department, he is super excited to be part of a team coming to VMXDN Foxhill in August 2023. After watching the ’22 race unfold, and dreaming of taking part he can’t believe he is racing for his country this August 24-28 as part of Team South Africa. In his own words he will be ‘riding with his idols’ and commented that ‘making it even better he will be on board a 2 stroke.’ At the time of writing David is riding a 2001 YZ250, and with lots still to be done he is super excited and cannot wait to come to the UK. He is currently getting himself into gear and getting the training done!
Motocross has been a part of David’s life since he got his first motorcycle at 3 years old. Growing up in Zimbabwe, he spent weekends with his family at the track, he believes that set him up for success in what would become a flourishing racing career, being crowned the country’s National Motocross Champion in 2017. Racing motocross for 27 years, from a small kid messing around in Zimbabwe to racing across Europe! He competed at the top level in South Africa for years and reached goals he never thought possible, and now he will be riding at VMXdN Foxhill.
Riding alongside Goosen is Damon Strydom, Multiple South Africa National Championship rider with 2 British 2 stroke titles to his name and in his words, he is ‘not just there to make up the numbers’ he means business and will be racing for the win! He is really looking forward to being at Foxhill’s in August and describes it as an honour to be chosen to represent his country and ride for South Africa is ‘A dream come true’. Damon will be riding a KX250 and is looking forward to seeing everybody there.
To complete this 3-man team is South African MX legend Ian “Toppy” Topliss. Ian began his racing career at the age of just 6 years old, which has spanned over 4 decades, something very few riders have achieved, until he retired in 2021. He has acclaimed 14 South Africa National Championships and has lots of skill and experience to bring to the team. Ian describes being chosen for the team a ‘great privilege’
To complete the team South Africa steeds Adrian is on the look out to hire a really good YZ250 2002/3. This needs to be ‘a properly sorted, race ready bike’ If you are able to help Team South Africa with this please email Adrian on adriandh@icloud.com
