Sterry shows Sand speed at MXGP of Sardegna

Adam Sterry showcased immense speed at round four of the 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship in Sardegna. The Chambers Racing rider finished 9th and 6th in the practice sessions and placed 11th in the qualification heat, reaffirming that he is a contender for positions in and around the top ten in the stacked MXGP class.

Although this speed did not translate into his moto finishes on Sunday, it was still a positive weekend for both Sterry and the team. Sterry finished 13th and 16th, respectively, in Sunday’s races, which secured the Brit 17th overall and thirteen championship points. We caught up with Adam post-race to discuss his weekend and the track conditions in Riola Sardo.

DH: Adam, great speed all weekend. The results were solid but not a true reflection on how good you was riding but overall you must be happy to showcase top ten speed this early in the season.

Sterry: “Yeah speed was really good 9th and 6th in the two practices and 11th in the qualifying race shown how hard we’ve been working and improving to get back to where I want to be. Like you said results in the motos didn’t really reflect the speed but that’s what we will work ok going forward”

The #811 and sandy terrain are usually a great match, and this weekend proved that even further. The MXGP competitors had mixed feelings about how the track shaped up over the weekend, as it didn’t evolve into its typical roughness, and the racing was at a very high pace.

DH: The track – a lot of riders said it wasn’t the typical Riola Sardo, how did you find it? It seemed you was comfortable and gelled with the fast-paced circuit.

Sterry: Yeah it’s sand so I liked it! I think with the 125’s made the track feel a bit different then it is usually here, but I thought overall the track was good and I enjoyed it.

Sterry’s 17th overall finish ties his best result since Sardegna in 2024. As the season progresses to Trentino this weekend, there is even more reason for the Chambers Racing rider to feel confident. The Crossdromo ‘Il Ciclamino’ circuit is where he posted his best result in the MXGP class back in 2020, finishing 11th overall.

DH: Trentino up next, a track you scored your best MXGP overall – I’m sure the confidence is high coming off the back off this weekend.

Sterry: Yeah Trentino is a track that I really like and had some good results there in the past. Hopefully I can get two good starts there and run closer to that top 10 group.

It is great to see a British rider and team competing alongside factory-supported machinery on the world stage. As round five fast approaches, be sure to keep an eye out for Adam this weekend, as he has his sights set on breaking into the top ten.
