It’s that time of the year again when the AMCA British Motocross Championship is set to burst into action! The 2025 title chase will be contested over six rounds, with the opener coming this weekend, April 5th/6th, at Fatcat Moto Parc, Doncaster. And, for round one, the entry list is stacked and ready to get on the gas and go for glory!

Starting with the Open class, who will be racing in a mixed capacity affair with the MX2 lads, the rider list suggests that out on track, it will be very hot indeed! Scored separately, the Open class features 2023 AMCA Champion James Dodd representing the FUS Marsh Honda team, Jayden Ashwell, Josh Taylor, Matt Burrows, Luke Bull, Will Hughes, the 2024 AMCA Open class runner-up and Adam Wells, 4th in the 2024 series. One of the new boys on the block joining them will be Lane Racing pilot Liam Gale. Having finished as runner-up in the 2024 AMCA MX2 series, the Bristol based rider now on his big blue 450F Yamaha is sure to be right on it and highly competitive!
Having already bagged both AMCA 125cc and Open Class titles, Luke Dean is going for the complete hat-trick in 2025 by also adding the MX2 crown. Luke, though, will be facing plenty of high-class competition provided by the likes of 2018 Champion Josh Waterman, super-fast FUS Marsh Honda ace Henry Williams, Martin Jones, Ben White and 2024 Honda Cup winner Matt Wright. In this one, also look out for Logan Wilcox and 2024 AMCA 125cc pilots Charlie Palmer and Yarin Evans.

After storming to 2024 AMCA 125cc glory, Jimmy Margetson is entered again and ready to defend his title. And Jimmy, who loves riding on the sand-based tracks, is certainly going to be a very difficult pilot to knock off that top spot! Leading the challenge to Jimmy’s dominance should be Luke Newman, the 2024 125cc runner-up, Wyatt McGregor, who finished 4th and Scott Corfield, 5th. As per last year, the main class also incorporates the 125cc Youth series with the top ten runners in 2024, such as Ollie Jewitt (2nd), Linc Hasted (3rd) and Oakley Kettle (5th), all set to compete again. Moving up in engine capacity from last year’s BW85cc contest will be Oakley Skinner, Arley Marshall, Jack Bullock and Jacob Ince. The 2025 125Youth title chase will also include one very interesting addition as fast female ride Leah Rees-Evans joins the fray. Leah has been training hard all Winter, and it would be absolutely no surprise if she finished on the Fat Cat podium come Sunday afternoon!
BW85cc and SW85cc join forces again in 2025. After missing out on the 2024 BW title by just 8 points, Sean Smout will be looking to bag top spot this time around! Top ten finishers last year, the likes of Finn Fitzgerald and Aston Whitehead also both go again in BW85cc. Although the numbers of registered riders SW85cc is relatively low at present, you can be sure this class is still sure to be ultra-competitive!
Rather surprisingly, 2024 Women’s Championship winner Grace Richards has not yet registered to defend her crown, but she could well still be on the Fatcat start line. If Grace is absent, though, there’s still an abundance of talent waiting to pounce on her vacant crown! Expect the likes of Holly Williams, Caitlin Newman, Amber McGregor, Hannah Jones, Lauren Collingwood, Sasha Tollet, Erin Howes, Sophie Jones and Jaymee Garrood to be right in the mix. Lucy Fearn leads the challenge in the Women’s Youth series.
Many of the regular AMCA Vet’s will be returning to compete again in the 2025 series. In the Over 40’s class, last year’s Champion James Lane, having swapped orange KTM for blue Yamaha, leads the entry along with runner-up Mark Swift. They will be joined by some interesting new challengers, including Jamie Dobson and Sam Callow. The Vet’s Over 50’s top two in 2024, Simon Lane and Matt Ryder, are both up for further action this time around, while Brian Staples tops the entry list in the new Vet’s Over 60’s contest. All of the three Vet’s groups will come to the start line in one combined clash but scored separately.
Finally, and new for 2025, there’s also a Clubman Championship for Junior and Senior riders on the programme, and it’s certainly going to be interesting to see how that one unfolds! The action at Fatcat is on both Saturday and Sunday and you can find the circuit just off junction 4 of the M18, postcode DN3 3EH.
