Oli Sansom made the long trip from Sutton Coldfield to Dunbar worthwhile last Sunday when he and Yamaha secured their first quad championship win of the season in the Rock Oil Michelin Ecosse XC Quad Winter Series.

The 33-year-old stormed his YFZ450R to another three wins from three starts, bagging a clean sweep of 12 wins from 12 starts in the four-round series.
On the day, while Sansom set the pace out front, behind him Michael Brewis struggled with tyre choice on the first moto, but after borrowing wheels for moto two, he was back on form and able to defend his runner up position. Young gun Robbie Wood’s day started well with a second place on moto one and third on moto two, but by moto three, his quad was playing up. dropping him back to sixth, just enough to retain third overall for the day and the championship.
A steady run gave fourth overall on the day to the newly crowned ACU British Club Champion, Gary Atkinson, just ahead of teenager George Oliver in fifth. Oliver took the holeshot in moto two and was showing great pace, had he not pulled out his own kill-cord mid race. Veteran Richie Cornett rounded out the top six on the day and clinched fourth overall in the championship, staying ahead of the unfortunate Ricky Tordoff, who made the long journey north only to collect a clutch of DNFs.
The fun, yet competitive Ecosse series attracted quad racers from the far-flung corners of Scotland, as well as a growing group of riders who travelled from south of the border.
Any quad racers looking to continue training through the winter should make it a firm diary date for 2020/21.
