Rowland runs riot! Lincolnshire Enduro Championship Round 3 – Race Report & Results

In a welcome return to Lincolnshire Enduro Club, Expert Jack Rowland has now raced with the club twice only. The lad from South Yorkshire seems to enjoy it though as once again, he came away with a victory on Sunday at the latest race of LEC/Gear4 2021 championship.

It was a repeat performance of his victory in the club’s last race of the 2020 “series” back in November. Jacks win saw him as the only rider on the day to dip under 16 minutes for one lap. Several laps of that quality ensured he was the only rider on the day in any class to attain eleven circuits. The first 2021 race winner back in April was Danny Catlin. He succumbed to second place this time though but does keep his nose in front with a very early look at the years annual positions. Another 2021 débutante rider was third place man Connor Bolsover. Whilst Jacks victory was due to that all-important extra lap, Danny and Connor both finished on ten laps with Danny edging it by just a short minute. Mark Lonsdale in fourth made up a group of only four riders in any class to accumulate ten circuits.

In conditions seen as “somewhat challenging”, over 140 riders took to the start line in LEC’s second race of the year. Once again using the three-hour format and returning to North Willingham, it may have been the driest Spring on record but the club delayed the race for a short time as they took the decision to pull some of the track at the last minute as some parts were considered nigh on impossible. 36 hours of rain over the days previous meant the lap was cut from six miles to somewhere just over four. On the day itself, and with some much welcome sun and some generous winds, lap times seem to reduce as the race progressed and the track dried a little. Early laps looked to have proved troublesome to some riders though.

In the biggest class of the day; the Clubman class, a grand total of seven riders finished on 9 laps. This class was a little bit closer than the Experts division with the two leaders being separated by just a couple of minutes. Thomas Sargent won the race ahead of Karl Day, with third spot going to Toby Hales another two minutes distant. Whilst it’s obviously very early days yet, Karl probably is edging it in the years standings.

Another big class on the day saw the closest finish. Three riders claimed eight laps in the Sportsman 2T class but it was won by a mere twenty seconds by Christian Humphries. Ryan Overton was runner up with Kane Williamson in third. Certainly close racing after 180 minutes, especially in the Lincolnshire “puree”

The 4T Sportsman division wasn’t nearly as well populated with only a handful of entrants but was dominated by Jason Macullum. Whilst Lola Stacey Jones equalled Jasons’ lap count (7), the lady rider couldn’t quite match Jason’s pace at the front. David Richman was third, albeit a lap down on the front runners.

In the Over 40’s class, it was very much a case of Deja vu with the leaders. Unbelievably, the first 4 lads in the April race were exactly the same as on Sunday. They finished in exactly the same order too. It wasn’t quite as close this time though. Lee Hattersley’s winning margin in the April race was near two minutes. This time it was nearer twelve over second-placed rider, Darren Thorpe. With his “normal” place of third, Michael Harris slotted behind in his rivals with Jason Cowlishaw making up the foursome. This certainly seems a class to watch out for over the coming months.

In the Over 50’s, Alan Vissian kept up his winning ways with nine laps. Ian Shepherd went one better this time out with his runner up spot whilst Mark Peckitt improved further still, finishing his race in third. Both Ian and Mark were a lap down on the winner.

Kevin Bartle Sr won the Over 60’s group with John Cotterill in second. Shaun Avison won the Trail and Classic class. In testing conditions, hats off to the fellows in the Beginners class. Andrew Smith; Alexander Richardson; Andrew Castle; Charlie Sutherland, and last but not least, father and son team Edward and William Ashmore. LEC hope to see you all on the start line in June at Ashby P guys, and if you can ride those conditions on Sunday, you will be fine when it’s dry!
