Cumbria Twinshock held round 2 of the Toughsheet National Twinshock Championships at a new track to the series at Schoolhouse MX in County Durham. Over 180 riders arrived to find a new facility on open farmland, that had been created over the last couple of years, and most of them had only positive comments about the track prep and layout.

As usual the event went smoothly, and the 21-race format supported by WJB Electrical was finished by 4 o’clock, and all riders got good race time.
Rider of the Meeting went to Northern Irelands Carter Burns, who travelled with Willie Burgess for his first ever ride on a twinshock, and came away with two wins and the Clubman overall win. Race one victor Jamie Mason took second overall with Andrew Wimpenny in third.
Kris Winder dominated the 125 Twinshock class on his Honda and took three wins, followed home in each race by last years champion Matt Rudd. Robin Cowgill preferred the 125 class to the Over 60’s at this round and came home in third.
New for this year is the combined 125 Evo’s and 125 Super Evo’s, and there was some top class action with Damo Strydom on the Kawasaki showing that it doesn’t need to be red to win, as he reeled off two wins to take the spoils in the Super Evos. Holeshot king Andy Lawton took second from Rian Warren in third by a couple of points. Race two winner Dan Hutchinson was unfortunate in race three with a DNF.
Jim Scrafton won two of the 125 Evo races to stand on the top step, with Jon Cowgill second and Tim Thornton third.
As with the 125’s, the Evo Open raced alongside the Super Evo Open class, and the star of this class was Corey Nemeth who took his Super Evo to two wins for the overall, and Lewis Parkinson seemed to holeshot each race, and managed to win race two to finish second from Danny Hiorns in third.
Michael Ogden was also in fine form and took the Evo class with another three wins from Michael Smith in second.
The Wulfsport Experts class saw some great battles with Graham Riley and Brad O’Leary going bar to bar at the front, with Graham coming out on top in each race to take his first-ever overall in the Twinshock series from Brad in second. Ryan Ireland had to rely on his trusty 250 instead of the big 500, but still took third place.
Oliver Dodders took the honours from Jack Mason in the 250 Twinshocks and was mixing it with the big boys in each race.
Chris Rogerson was best Inters Twinshock rider, with two wins, from race one winner Mark Brockhurst in second, and Darren Williams third.
Willie Burgess, the event sponsor, took his blue Gary Murphy Maico to three wins in the Over 50 Twinshocks, and Sean Dodders just pipped Jim Shand to second by a single point.
Pete Mathia started his 54th year of riding by winning the Over 60’s with two wins. But it could have been different if race one winner Chris Rogerson had not lost his seat in race two. Chris took second overall with Andy Holland in third.
The Vets Modern Over 40’s saw a masterclass from Simon Bonser who seemed to lead every lap of all three races to win by a good margin.
Jon McBride, another of the Irish riders showed his pace to take second from Julian Freeberne in third.
Several riders have moved up into the Over 50’s Modern this year, and it looked like Danny Blakeley was going to have a clean sweep of wins until he dropped the bike whilst being chased by Jonno White in the final race. Unable to get back into the fray it meant a DNF, which relegated him to fourth overall. Meanwhile White went on to win the final race and take the overall win, with last year’s champion Steve Ward in second and Ewan Johnston in third.
The next round is at Bevercotes, Notts. on Saturday, June 4th.
