Ready to Rock! 2025 Motul British Motocross Championship – Event info & Preview

Ready to Rock! 2025 Motul British Motocross Championship - Event info & Preview

So here we go, folks. One of the most eagerly anticipated ACU British Motocross Championships is about to open this Sunday, March 30th, at the World-Famous Hawkstone Park in Shropshire.

Yep, the 2025 edition of the championship, which is title sponsored by Motul, has undergone a change of leadership, a makeover and a change of format and in doing so, it has attracted a fantastic amount of industry support and, more importantly, what is looking like to be full gates in all classes.

On top of that, the new MXGB.TV YouTube channel will be live streaming for free.

When it comes to racing, it’s hard to look past Crendon Tru7 Honda’s Conrad Mewse in MX1.  Mewse was in stunning form last year, and it took the former “Fastest Man of the Planet” Jeffrey Herlings to defeat him to the 2024 title, but with the KTM man on the sidelines (although there are rumours??), it would take a brave man or women to bet against the Honda rider.  His main opposition is going to come from Lexa Racing’s Josh Gilbert and Chambers Racing’s Adam Sterry, who have both already notched up MXGP appearances this year.  Dirt Store Racing Triumph’s Joel Rizzi will also be expected to be among the front runners, as will the likes of SC Sporthomes rider Tristan Purdon, Brad Todd, new Crendon Tur7 Honda signing Jamie Carpenter, SAS KTM French racer Matheo Meot, Lexa Racing’s John Adamson, Apico Honda’s Martin Barr… and the list goes on…

MX2 is always an intriguing mix of young and old, with at one end of the spectrum you have the experience of Dirt Store Racing Triumph’s Tommy Searle and Crendon Tru7 Honda’s Jake Nicholls and on the other end of the spectrum you have riders who are still at school and making their Pro debuts.  When it comes to favourites, the aforementioned Searle and Nicholls will undoubtedly be in the mix, but they have the likes of Shaun Simpsons, Gabriel SS24, KTM Young guns, Gyan Doensen, and Max Werner to contend with. Inexperience has shown in their results so far this season, but speed is not an issue, and if they can pitch in with some good results, they will be challengers.  Bike it Kawasaki’s Bobby Bruce will also be one to watch, as will Dirt Store Racing Triumphs Billy Askew. SC Sporthomes Husqvarna rider Charlie Heyman has had a good start to the season so far, as have ASA United GasGas’s Ben Mustoe, Worx Total Triumphs Calum Mitchell and Chambers Racings Ollie Colmer.

Other riders who could feature at the sharp end are Glenn McCormick, Tyla Hooley, Florian Miot, Joe Brookes, James Barker, Josh Vail, Max Harris, Freddie Bartlett, and Steven Clarke. However, all of the above have to qualify. With over 55 riders entered, there will be two qualifying groups. The fastest 18 of each will make it through to the main riders, with the rest having to duke it out in an LCQ. Only the top four progress.

Forty riders will also be on the grid in the 125cc class, with tons of young talent looking to make a name for themselves. With pre-season Jamie Keith out injured, the likes of Freddie Gardiner, Charlie Richmond, Ryan Waggott, Alfie Geddes-Green, Charlie Hucklebridge, Drew Stock, Lucas Moncrieff and Hayden Statt will be looking to rack up as many points early doors to steal a march on the championship.
