Podium weekend for Vail, Wilson and SJP Moto at Monster Mountain MXGB round!

This weekend saw the SJP Moto squad head to the Welsh venue of Monster Mountain for the third round of the Dirt Store ACU British Motocross Championship and included the opening round for the 65cc and Small Wheel 85cc classes.

The event saw four of the team’s riders competing, with Leo Wilson and Jimmy Boxall joining Josh Vail and Harvey Collins. Coming into the event Josh Vail had been in good form after victory at the Fastest 40 last weekend.

Qualifying saw Leo Wilson start the weekend in great style with the fastest lap time, while teammate Jimmy Boxall went 24th fastest in the Small Wheel 85cc class. In the Big Wheel 85cc class Harvey Collins posted several solid lap times to finish 15th fastest. In the 125cc class, Josh was looking for a strong lap time and finished the session second fastest.

The Saturday races saw Leo make a great start and lead the opening laps, before dropping back to second and finished the race in second place, while Jimmy suffered a bad start and worked his way up to 21st at the finish. In the second race of the Saturday, Leo started outside the top 10 and quickly moved forward and up to 4th before mistake dropped him to 6th at the finish, but it was enough for 3rd overall on the day. Jimmy suffered another bad start and had to work hard all race long to push forward to finish 21st again and 20th overall on the day.

In the Big Wheel 85cc class Harvey made a good jump out of the gate but got pushed wide on the opening turn and dropped to the mid pack and had to push forward to finish in 13th. The second race of the Saturday saw the Harvey make another good jump and a better start, before riding a solid race to finish 12th.

In the 125cc class Josh made a good start and quickly get into second place and looked to close the gap at the front but had to settle for a solid second place finish. In the second race Josh made a great start and quickly got into the lead and tried to create a gap at the front but on lap two he slipped to second. Then just over a lap later, Josh tucked the front after landing on a tabletop and went down hard, after taking a few moments to regroup and rejoin the race down in 10th. Once Josh settled back into the race, he was able to get back to fourth in the race and second in the 125cc class.

Sunday saw the riders back on track and in the Small Wheel 85cc class Leo started outside the top 10 in the first race and pushed forward all race long to finish 4th while Jimmy started outside the top 20 and progressed forward all race long and crossed the line in 17th. The final race of the weekend saw Leo take another 4th place finish for 4th overall on the day and 4th in the championship while Jimmy came home in 22nd place for 21st in the championship.

In the Big Wheel 85cc class Harvey started the second day with a top 15 start before pushing his way forward into 9th at the finish. Harvey went to the line in the final moto looking to finish the weekend with a good result and started inside the top 10 and went on to finish in 8th place. The results over the weekend gave him 7th place overall and moved him to 11th in the standings.

In the 125cc class started the first race inside the top 5 and moved forward to take the lead on the final lap and the race win. In the final moto of the weekend Josh suffered from a bad start and had a tough race to recover to 2nd at the finish, for 2nd overall and remains 2nd in the championship.

The next round of the Dirt Store ACU British Championship sees Josh and Harvey head to Blaxhall on Sunday 23rd June.
