Coming into the event Reece was in good form after taking both race wins at the opening round and returning from the recent European EMX125 round in Italy, where he qualified and narrowly missed out on points.

The day started with the qualifying session and Reece quickly looked to secure a fast lap time around the fast-flowing sand circuit. At the end of the session Reece finished 7th fastest overall and 3rd fastest in the 125cc class.

In the first race of the day, Reece got boxed in off the start by the 250f machines and rounded the opening corners in the mid pack. By the end of the opening lap, Reece was just outside of the top 10 and quickly pushing forward. As the race progressed Reece moved into the top 6 by the halfway point and battling for the lead in the 125cc class. In the closing laps Reece made a move for 4th place and took over the lead in the 125cc class for the victory.

After taking victory in the first race, Reece was looking for a repeat in the second race. Unfortunately, on the sighting lap Reece suffered an issue with his clutch and had to return to the Waiting Zone where the team worked quickly to resolve the problem and allow Reece to still compete in the race although he missed his starting position and joined the race after the gate had dropped. In dead last, Reece had his work cut out and quickly got to work and was in 15th by the end of the opening lap. Reece continued his charge and was in 8th place on the 4th lap and battling for the top 3 in the 125cc class. After a couple of small mistakes Reece had to settle for 8th overall in the race and 3rd in the 125cc.

The 1-3 scorecard gave Reece second overall on the weekend and he retained the Championship lead as he heads to Foxhill for the next round.

Away for the Championship, teammate Josh Vail has been keeping up his winning from, by claiming victory at the MX Nationals, AMCA and Bridgestone Nationals, while Jayden Haigh is slowing working on his recovery from injury.

Speaking about Reece’s performance, Team Manager Leighton Haigh commented “This weekend we had a couple of minor technical issues, but Reece showed his quality. He had great pace all day and took the race win in the opening moto and salvaged a result in the second race to secure an overall podium when he could have suffered a DNF. So to come away with a podium and maintaining the Championship lead is a great result”.
