The Phoenix Even Strokes Kawasaki team took on Round 3 of the 2024 British MX Championship which visited Blaxhall at the weekend. After two excellent race meetings promoted by organisers RHL with bumper crowds and an excellent atmosphere, Blaxhall did not disappoint. Under RHL, the British Championship has started to grow again, which is great for the sport and our team.
Qualifying in MX2 and MX1 classes would always be tough against the local British Championship legends and the current crop of MXGP riders. However, both riders qualified well. Charlie managed to qualify 15th, and Carlton completed his impressive form by finishing 8th at the end of the session.
MX2 Race One: Charlie gated mid-pack, leaving him with a lot of work to do on a very one-line circuit. However, Charlie found his grove and made a few passes in the first five laps to find himself in 12th. Charlie grounded out the rest of the moto chasing the pack and finally finished 11th at the flag.
MX1 Race One: After finishing round two with zero points, it was important for Carlton to get some valuable points on the board. Gating in 9th position helped Carlton establish himself with the leading pack of riders, which helped with the track being so hard to pass on. Carlton showed great speed throughout the race and had a good battle with Tom Grimshaw, before finishing 7th at the flag. Only seven seconds separated 5th and 7th place at the end of the race. Fourteen valuable points for the championship.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the second races were cancelled due to rider injuries and a spectator being taken to hospital.
It’s all to play for in the championship after three rounds with Carlton 11th in MX1 and Charlie 12th in MX2.
Barry Moore – Team Owner
“Both riders did very well on a frustratingly one-lined track that was hard to pass. Today was all about the starts, and Carlton put himself in a good position by gating well. We hope that everyone who was taken to the hospital will make a full recovery; unfortunately, these things happen. Three rounds down, and we are 11th and 12th in the championship, with much more to come from both riders. We are in a good position!”
Carlton Husband – MX1
“It’s been a much better round for me. I’m pleased with how I’m riding and my fitness levels. We can make a few tweaks to the suspension to help me feel like I can attack a lot more at the end of the race, but my pace is improving weekly. Big thanks to the team, as always.”
Charlie Cole – MX2
“It’s a shame the race was cut short today. I was feeling good, and if I got that start, then I knew I could be knocking on the door of the top five. I have a few things to work on, but I know there is much more to come, and I’m feeling really at home on the bike and with the team.”
