Perfect Pratley goes unbeaten! 2024 UK EVO MX Championship Finale

Back on the weekend of September 28th & 29th, the UK Evo Mx team ran their final round of the 2024 Championships at Ford in Wiltshire. Many other meetings had been cancelled because of the wet, but not the UK Evo team; they were to persevere and really worked hard to run this event and on Friday night, seventy per cent of the track was scraped to remove the wet lying on the top and what a good job they had done as the track was in prime condition to produce some excellent racing on both days, but unfortunately because of two incidents on the Saturday they could only run two blocks of racing with a further two blocks on the Sunday.

Race Report and Images by Dave Rich

Before racing commenced on the Saturday all riders were welcomed to do a lap of honour which was well supported in Memory of Bristol Motorcycle dealer Nigel Meredith who sadly lost his battle against illness just days before the meeting.

Aaron Colley denied Luke Dean a clean sweep of wins in the Evo 125 class

In the Evo 125 class, it was Luke Dean who took the overall at the end of the weekend, but he was up against it, especially in the third race, as Aaron Colley was to get the better of Dean mid-race, which denied Dean a clean sweep of wins with Colley taking second overall and Daryl Bolter taking third overall.

First Corner action in the Evo 125 class

In the Pre 83 125’s, there was no stopping Matt Nash, who took a clean sweep of wins. However, it was a battle to see who was going to take second overall, which went right down to the last race between Jordan Hands and Graham Cross. Although they ended the weekend tied on points, by virtue of Hands beating Cross in the last race, he took second overall.

Matt Nash was in fine form in the Pre 83 125 class

The 250 Evo class was fast as usual, and setting the early pace in the opening race was Jamie Skuse, who looked set to take the opening race by some margin, but Skuse was to come to a halt halfway through the race when his earth wire came off which gave him a Dnf and taking the win was Jamie Smith from James Kensington and Rory Merchant. Skuse had the early lead in the second moto before Smith took over on the opening lap and tried to get away from Skuse, who was right in his wheel marks all through the race until the last lap when Skuse piled on the pressure, and it worked as he managed to force Smith into a slight mistake and Skuse shot through and took the win from Smith with Kensington third. The third race saw Smith hit the front from the off from Merchant with Skuse in third, who was soon to get past Merchant, but he had no answer to Smith in this one as Smith went on untroubled to take a comfortable win with Skuse second and third was Merchant. The last race was abit of a procession as Skuse led from the off and literally raced away to take the Chequered flag ahead of Smith and Kensington. Smith took the overall from Kensington, with Merchant ending up third overall.

No 600 Jamie Skuse and No 26 Jamie Smith battling it out in the Evo 250 class

In the Evo 500 class there was only one winner at the end of the weekend and that was Nigel Kibble on his Cr Honda who won all four races with the Kx Kawasaki of James Price taking second overall and third overall went to Scott Faulkner.

The Vets Evo Over 45’s class saw a fine display of riding again from a legend in the past in the shape of Craig Pratley, who took all four race wins to give him the overall with another name from years ago in the shape of Danny Smyth with a hattrick of second place finishes taking second overall with third overall going to Dean Warren who was out on a 250 who finished third in all three races.

In the Vets Evo Over 60’s class, there was a win each for both Glyn Morton and Greg Cox on the Saturday with Cox winning both races on the Sunday, but at the end of the meeting, it was consistency which was to give Morton the overall from Cox with Vince Crawley with a scorecard of 4,2,3,3 taking third overall.

Nigel Kibble took all four race wins in the Evo 500 class

The Super Evo Under 40’s class saw Chuck Davies win both races on the Saturday and the opening race on Sunday, but not the best of last races which was won by Ross Millard. However, Davies still took the overall from Bradley Doyle with Jack Seaborne taking third overall. In contrast, in the Super Evo Over 40’s class, it was Matt Coles who took the overall with three wins and a third with James Baker who took the other win to add to his consistency in the other races, taking second overall and third overall was to go to Nathan Davies. The Super Evo Over 50’s class saw the Kx 500 Kawasaki of Steve Wells win the opening three races of the weekend only to be beaten in the last race by Wildman Willis, but it was Wells who was the overall winner from Willis with Cornishman Mark Roberts with three consistent rides taking third overall.

In the Twinshock Under 50’s class, it was the big 604 Ktm of Ben Dyer who was to dominate the proceedings, winning all four races with Matthew Gurke taking second overall and Lee Witt third overall, whereas in the Over 50’s class, it was Neil Midgley who won the opening race on Saturday from James Reeves, but Reeves was to win the other three races to give him the overall from Midgley with Kevin Allen with four third-place finishes on his 560 Ktm taking third overall.

Liam Gale was to dominate the Modern 2-Stroke Under 50’s class

The Modern 2-Stroke Under 50’s Class was to produce some good racing with some close battles at the front but there was no one who was going to stop Liam Gale, who was to take the overall after winning all four races with second overall going to Aaron Padstone ahead of Harrison McCann who took third overall and in the Over 50’s 2-Stroke class Terry House was a runaway winner in all four races to take the overall with Gareth Dunsford taking second overall with a 2,2,2,2 scorecard and taking third overall was the Mas Sport Ktm of Scott Senter who finished third in all the races.
