Peace of cake! 2023 Summit Extreme Enduro – Race Report & Results

RAW Enduro were carefully selected by the ACU, to be trusted to run a quality addition to the British Extreme Enduro Championship, and add a fresh new challenge for British Extreme Regulars. Clerk of the Course Wayne Braybrook, who knows Extreme challenges from experience, set about creating a super tough event that riders could complete, but not without lots of effort and refusal to be beaten.

From the off the Championship and Expert classes were both packed with the UK’s best talent, The Brightmore Brothers, Dan Peace, Jack Price, Richard Moorhouse and Robert Crayston were amongst a quality field fresh from their exploits in Erzberg.

Sam Lampkin

Dan Peace showed a calm manner to go about simplifying all the super tough sections of the track. As you’d expect from a world level trials rider, he hopped and bopped his way around the lap to take a cool win on his Sherco. Mitch Brightmore was looking good for a win until disaster struck the same as in Austria, he smashed off yet another complete rear brake caliper, slowing his progress Mitch opted to go out on the final two laps with just his front brake, something that was a major disadvantage with the super steep fell side riders had to descend. Jack Price placed third in the Championship class just missing staying on the lead lap by around 1 minute. Cumbrian Ace Dave Wood battled on in fine style on his Beta 300 to take an impressive win in the Expert Class. Having the two Extra sections of the lap to complete, along with the championship class, all the experts were really worked hard as their route checks sent them into the toughest ravines. Jed Balmer placed P2 with Joe Dawson happy with his third place at the Summit.

Clau Fillipe

Ben Tennent confirmed his Expert path for 2024 smashing the clubman class win by a clear 8 minutes from Young Clau Filip who was runner up. Fraiser Lampkin topped the Youth Class on his Beta 125 machine, despite injuring his thumb in an awkward fall, gutsy as ever Lampkin held up the family name by taking a worthy win. John Lumbly placed an incredible P10 overall and took the Vets 40 class win, Chris Brightmore joined both his sons in a live race for the first time and to his credit grabbed the Vets 50 class win after saying “I’m no trials rider” when he crossed the finish line. Kyle Kowalski ran out at the top of the Sportsman Class with Anthony Turner opting to sit out staying on the lead lap. Aaron Gwilliams stood on the final podium place happy with his summit debut.

It is important to point out to anyone looking at overall results, all Championship and Expert riders completed two extra sections of course, so the clubman, vets, and sportsman, who featured quite high up the overall rankings, were on a simplified course, so class results show the true picture.

Summit Warrior

A mention has to go to the last official finisher, Sportsman rider Adrian Dopuletz battled around the summit course taking a fraction under three and a half hours to complete a lap, credit to this man, out of his comfort zone but quitting was never an option. Well done that man for reaching the Summit.

A fantastic day with great attendance means the Summit Extreme can now sleep until summer 2024. A hard winter in the dales will once again flush the gulleys and ravines to create a fresh new challenge.
Huge thanks to our very accommodating land owners, local residents, and local authorities for their continued support of our sport at this stunning location.

Thanks to everyone who attended, and to the RAW Marshals who worked overtime keeping those wheel turning despite the challenges riders faced.
