No Sun at Swanmore! 2022 Portsmouth MXC Summer Championship Round 1 – Race Report & Results

Portsmouth MXC kickstarted their 2022 Summer Club Championship at Swanmore.

Race Report by Mark Morris jr

The VMX class started proceedings and race one saw current champion Mark Morris crash on the first corner meaning he had to play catch up. Managing to take a chequered flag in race 2 made sure that he would get the result he needed. With a 7,2,4 he grabbed a 3rd overall. 2nd place went to a very consistent Billy Hazell who bagged 2,3,2 putting some good points on the board for the rest of the season ahead. 1st place went to Mr Martin Badbury after a stunning first race and two more good results of 2nd and 3rd.

Dominic Newbury came out hot in the mx2. He managed to ace the conditions and went 1,2,1 for first place on the day. Tom Hughes followed just behind him. He looked like going for 3rd all day but managed to claw a 2nd place in moto 3. So with 3,3,2 he bagged second. The podium was finished off with Tom Chesterman with 2,6,3 being more than enough for 3rd.

The Mx1 was led by Josh Coleman. He came firing out of the blocks. With results of 1,1,2 he was Babel to take the overall.Next in line was Aaron Gordon who displayed some fantastic riding throughout the day. His results of 2,3,1 were more than enough To solidify second place. Last but not least rounding off the podium was Nicky Watts Who also put in some very good Motos. He went 3,2,4.

The Rookies were missing last year’s champion Luke Southern meaning that lots of fresh faces were in the mix looking for a race win ! Joe Cracknell and Tyler Kirby were the two favourites to take the overall on the day. It was however Kirby who got it signed, sealed and delivered. With Results of 1,3,1. This meant that Joe Cracknell had to settle with second (3,1,3). Joe Brooker should have been in the mix but a mistake in race one meant he was out of the podium race. This meant that Billy Moriarty could take the third place on the box.(2,4,2).

Big Wheels was led by Connor Williams. He put out a fine display of racing skills and went 1,1,1 To seal The victory and maximum points. In a close second was Travis Laughton Who battled hard to claim the spot. He went 3,2,2. Casey Kennet filled the final spot on the podium after some great riding all day in the tough conditions. 2,5,4 secured 3rd.

In The Small wheels Marley alder was looking for first place overall But was beat to the task By Harrison Schofield. Harrison put in some fantastic motos with his 2,1,1 performance being more than worthy for first. Alder therefore had to settle for second after going 6,2,2. The podium in this group was finished off with Ryan Clift having gone 1,11,3. A great performance from him in the first race!

The 65s was a close run set of races all day. With Jamie currie going 3,3,3 to bag a third on the steps. Beat to second by an amazing run from Spencer Newman (2,2,2). And no one could argue that in the end the winner of the Meeting would be Archie Stapley, after going 1,1,1 and putting a maximum of 135 points on the board.

Last out were the Autos. Some very exciting racing took place. Preston Chorley led the pack in all 3 motos claiming 3 race wins and the overall. Charlie Farmer was a close second.
