The 3 Flo Madison Crescent Yamaha bLU cRU team rolled into Hawkstone Park for the fifth round of the Revo ACU British motocross championship with excitement and anticipation as it was the first round of the championship for the team’s younger racers, Tommy Wood (YZ65) and Arthur Moore (YZ85). Joining them was Ollie Bubb (YZ125) but unfortunately Hudson Roper (YZ250F) was missing the action and will continue to do so for a while yet with a broken collarbone from the previous event.
It was a successful weekend. Arthur not only took his first national race win in the small wheeled class in his first year, but it was also the team’s first national race in their first year. Continuing the ‘first’ theme it was also the first national race win for the YZ85 in over two decades. After another three consistent races Arthur finished round one of his championship third overall. It was a baptism of fire for Tommy Wood in the 65cc class on a tough track against some much bigger kids but he fought hard all weekend. After qualifying 9th in his first British championship national in the 65cc class and showing his future potential he gave everything he had over the four motos to bring his YZ65 home 12th overall, a crash in moto two costing him a top 10 overall result on his national debut. Ollie was a picture of consistentcy in the youth 125cc class coming in 8th in all four of his motos for 8th overall after fighting through the pack in every moto.
Ollie Bubb – #44 – YZ125
“I’m happy about my performance but not so much about my results. My starts are missing at the moment and nothing like they were at the start of the season so I need to get them back to back up up there in the top five. I’m happy with how it’s going in my first year in the 125’s but I obviously want more. Dad and Jeff said I need to find more intensity and I think I was a bit more this weekend and felt a bit more aggressive and comfortable on the bike. I’m loving my YZ125 and it was going well, I just need to get more out of it and I think I did a bit more this weekend. I fought all through the races and my laps times were good at the end. I just need to push on more at the beginning of the races and get back to getting those starts I was getting at the start of the year.”

“I really happy. To win the first race of the championship from start to finish and take my first race win in the class and for the team is cool. My YZ85 is so nice to ride and I’m now really starting to feel comfortable on it. I got a little tired in the other two races on Saturday and just couldn’t find the speed and energy to go for another win so I tried really hard just to make sure I didn’t crash so I could have a chance of the making the podium. I got another holeshot and was leading the last race but fell off in a slow corner and that cost the win and second overall, so I was upset about that but I now know I can win and go for overalls at the next rounds. I like the track at the next round at Schoolhouse so I’ll be going for it there.”

“That was cool. I’ve never been to Hawkstone. The track was really bumpy and rutty but fun. I had a big crash in the second race and and landed on my head and made my nose bleed but I got back on my bike and kept going round to try and score some points. If I hadn’t of crashed I would’ve finished in the top 10. I’ve had a lot of fun and I got to ride the same track as Tommy Searle and Conrad Mewse, they’re my two favourite riders.”

“It feels good to get our first national race win in our first year. Arthur was awesome from start to finish. He pulled a clear holeshot and rode immaculately and never once showed any nerves and I’m proud of him and what he’s done for the team, along with the all the lads. We started this team about as late in the day as you can to start a race season and pull it all together and none of the lads have had a proper off season to not only learn about the bikes after all moving up a class and on different cc’s, but to also test, get to know each other and their families and myself. So taking all that into account to be getting the results we have been I’m very happy with our progress and very much have one eye on 2024 and beyond and building on the this eraly foundation we’ve formed with Yamaha U.K, Madison, Crescent Motorcycles and all our brilliant partners that are making it happen and giving these kids a chance at chasing their dreams. I saw what it means to them this weekend.
Arthur’s win was an emotional moment for him, his family and me also. I had to walk off somewhere quiet for the last two laps because I could feel myself getting emotional as that chequered flag got closer. It was so cool seeing Tommy hanging out with his little mates smiling and laughing between motos and how excited he was to be there and race the same track and meet his heroes in Tommy Searle and Conrad Mewse. It was also nice to see Ollie ignite a spark in his belly and show more intensity. If he can keep that for the rest of the season it will be yet more progression in his first year in the class and put him in good stead for going into a solid off season program, which of course this time around we’ll all be able to hit the ground running. We’re all looking forward to the next round in two weeks and hope to carry the momentum.”
