In the championship class, Ricky Wiggins took the win after a few warmup laps on the borrowed Yamaha 125. Wiggins set the fastest lap of the group by a close margin, himself and Brad King being the only riders to scrape below the six-minute barrier. A bit of brotherly competition resulted in Bradley Rowland placing second and Brett Rowland ended up in third, rounding off the championship podium.

Jay Baxendale took the win in the Expert class, finishing with a two-minute gap over the rest of the class and coming 5th overall. In second place was Sam Gabriel, putting his motocross speed to good use around the sprint track. In third place was Cavan Watt who set some impressive lap times on his Crescent YZ125, only dropping off towards the end due to a lack of bike time recently.

In the Expert Vets class Guy Chandler took the top spot on the podium finishing with nearly a minute’s lead under his belt. In second place was James Drinkwater who had a close battle with third place Justin Cadman, with the two of them swapping places for most of the day.

Chris Doney took an early lead in the Clubman A class going 10 seconds faster than the next nearest competitor. He maintained this lead, consistently winning every test. In second place was Daniel Sibbick who had some close competition from Harvey Wilkinson in the later laps but had enough of a margin from early on that Wilkinson ended up in third.

The winner in the Clubman B class was Nic Lee, who had a steady start to the day but put the hammer down taking the top. Second place was Samuel Baggot who put in some consistent lap times. Third place was Ross Curtis who was fastest off the bat winning the first test.

In the Clubman Vets, Andy Claxton and Stu Bowers battled it out all day finishing only 9 seconds apart over 8 tests. Claxton ended up on the top spot with Stu narrowly in second. In third place was Karl Ingarfield putting in some consistent laps to round off the podium. Stan Watt also competed in this class on a Tenere 700, placing in 6th, fair play!

Jake Outrim was the winner in the Sportsman class, with a slim margin of 30 seconds over 8 tests. In second was Ryan Guy, who had an eventful day of bike problems but still managed to set some speedy lap times. In third place was Nial McCrow who consistently upped the pace to round off the podium in third.

In the Sportsman vets class, Justin Short was the winner on the day, finishing over a minute ahead of the rest of the class. In Second place was Steve Taylor who pulled a good gap from the start to finish ahead of third place Stu August.

In the Youth class, Freya Drinkwater took an early lead but Oakley Draper ended up with the win, sneaking past in the last few laps. Freya finished second in class, giving her an identical result to her Dad in his class. Speedy recovery to Beau Short who unfortunately broke his wrist on the first lap following an awkward crash.

Alice Saville from Photo Finish 43 and Rich T we’re out taking photos and Red Bull kindly donated some tinnies. Much appreciated.

The third round of the summer sprint series is provisionally on the 17th of September at an exciting new venue, priority entry will be given to RORE members and riders who have entered both previous sprints. More details closer to the time.

Thank you very much to all our helpers, especially Pete and Chester who ran the laps. As well as Stan, Cavan and Dan for track prep, Dave, Chris and Grant for marshalling and also Steve at Mito uk and Monsters of Dirt

One little moan, there was a group of riders who walked the test together and decided to get creative with their lines, ignoring arrows and a clearly marked route. This time-saving cheat line may have disappointingly affected the results as in sprint racing the top placings in a class can be separated by fractions of a second. So please note we know who you are, and another issue will result in naming and shaming and future entries being denied.

See you all at the next sprint or we have enduro practice on Wednesday 20th July. Booking open from Thursday 7th July via rogershillracewaybooking@yahoo.com.
