Mewse to contest Swiss MXGP

British MX2 champion Conrad Mewse will take his Crendon Fastrack Honda CRF450R to Switzerland for a wildcard ride in the MXGP at Frauenfeld on Easter Monday, April 16.

Fresh from a double win in Sunday’s opening MX Nationals at Oakhanger, the 23-year-old will take on the world championship round in the premier class for Dave Thorpe’s Honda team.

Mewse said: “It will be nice to be back in the MXGP paddock and get stuck in again with the very fast boys. I think it will be beneficial to race with the best in the world to bring on my speed and intensity. It will hopefully help me improve in the British series which is the team’s goal.

“ I rode three MXGPs last year but was coming back from injury and only had a couple of days on the bike. So I’m looking forward to being 100% fit, healthy and comfortable on the 450.

“And it’s an awesome track. The ground is very similar to Oxford Motopark as it has lots of jumps, waves and rollers – like an outdoor supercross track. So it will be good to race on something different to the soft and we’ve raced on in the past few weeks.

“It’s a stacked class with so many factory riders. So I just want to ride it, give it my all and keep myself topped up for the British championship.”

Team boss, triple world 500 champ Dave Thorpe said: “When Conrad joined the team, we agreed that we would try to contest some MXGP rounds with him. He’s put so much work in over the winter and is riding so well, we wanted to give him this opportunity to ride the Crendon Fastrack Honda on the world stage. And the break in the calendar after the Canada Heights British championship round was cancelled made it an ideal opportunity.”
