Legends reunited! Motocross & Speedway Memories Reunion 3 – Race Report & Results

Over the weekend of 29th & 30th April Motocross & Speedway Memories Reunion 3 took place at the reopened track at Whiteway Barton Nr Kingsteignton in Devon which had been prepared to nigh on perfection and had attracted a big entry with many legends from the past in attendance to do a parade lap or two which included the likes of Dave Thorpe, Craig Pratley, Greg Hanson, Dave Watson, Steve Liddington, Kip Herring, Dai Smith, and Rob Andrews to name a few.

There were three blocks of racing on Saturday and just two blocks on Sunday. Saturday saw the sun out in all its glory and was to produce some excellent racing and even with rain overnight it had left the track on Sunday in excellent sted for yet another day of racing.

Jim Davies took the overall in the Evo/Super Evo 125 class by one point

In the Evo/Super Evo 125 class it was Rob Holyoake who won all three races on Saturday and was going well in the first race on Sunday until he came to a halt after a stone had hit his fuel tap and he lost all his fuel and with it blew his chances of the overall as he did win the last race on the Sunday, but the overall went to Jim Davies who took it by literally one point from Dave Anthony.

Tom Gilbert took four out of the five Evo/Super Evo 250/500 races

The Evo/Super Evo 250/500 class saw Tom Gilbert win 4 of the five races and with a fourth in the last race which was won by Harvey James, this was enough to give Gilbert the overall.

In the Junior class, it was Tal Veale who ended the weekend with the overall with a 5-1-1-2-1 scorecard with Adam Prior with one win taking second overall and Lee Veale taking third overall by literally by one point ahead of Alex Hartley who was the winner of the first race on the Sunday.

In the intermediate class, it was Dan Hartley who was to take the overall with a 1-3-2-3-2 scorecard ahead of Chester Blair, but a rider that was on fire on Sunday was Kyran Nicholas who won all three races, but unfortunately for Kyran with not such a good day on Saturday he could only take third overall.

In the Vets class, there was no stopping Simon Lane who was to dominate the proceedings and won all five races over the weekend.

In the MX1 class, there were two wins for James Dodd on Saturday with Josh Taylor winning the other one after the race was cut short due to an accident. Dodd was in devastating form on the Sunday and was to have a real ding-dong battle with Taylor in the opening race and just managed to hold on to the chequered flag and was to dominate the last race by some fourteen seconds to take the win and with it the overall.

In the MX2 class, it was George Hopkins who won the opening race on the Saturday with Ollie Beamish winning the other two and Beamish was to continue with his winning ways on Sunday and took the chequered flag in both races which gave him the overall.

Also over the weekend, there was a Novice 1,2 and 3 classes which saw Ben Radford win the opening Novice 1 race on the Saturday, but all the other four races were won by Kevin Wheeler who was to take the overall whereas, in the Novice 2 class, it was Tim Looker who took the overall with five consistent rides which included three race wins with second overall going to Kyle Richards literally by one point from Robbie Simmons who had won the other two races. The Novice 3 class saw Jack Baulch take the overall, but he was denied a clean sweep of wins by Jack Little who won the second race on the Saturday and with four other high-scoring races he took second overall.

Kevin Wheeler took four of the five race wins in the Novice 1 class and took the overall.

The Super Final was open to the top four riders in every class to compete against each other. Leading the way on the opening lap was Cornish youngster Louie Kessell with Dodd and Taylor tucked in behind him. Dodd managed to get past Kessell on the opening lap and was soon to pull away at the front, which left a good hard battle going on behind him with Kessell put under huge pressure from Taylor which Kessell dealt with for several laps until two laps from the end when Taylor found a way pass and up into second and was in a real hurry and was closing in on Dodd at the front at some rate, but the chequered flag came out just in time for Dodd who took the win by literally just 0.772 of a second with Kessell coming home a distant third.
