Knight of the Realm! Raw Enduro Rock Oil Championship Round 3 – Race Report & Results

Rock Oil Championship Round 3 headed back to Catterick on another brand new track, running from the same awesome Paddock area, but a fresh new course using lots of new areas’s on the huge site. With the September BEC preparation now in full swing, the course for this event was used as a “run in” for a large part of the Enduro Test that will run from just behind the paddock.

Saturdays Pay & Play day was a slightly shorter route, still, around 14 minutes per lap average, riders from youth to adults had a great day of non-competitive training on the site.

Sunday as usual first up was the Youth event with a fantastic turnout of young guns from Autos to 125 hot shots. From the get-go Fraiser Lampkin had the win in his sights, doing most of the damage on lap 1 Lampkin’s opening lap was a scorcher, not one for riding steady… Fraiser continued to smash out fast laps to take the Youth A win on his 125 Beta. Karl Hancock had an awesome ride on his `125 Beta taking runner up spot, Albie O’Connell overcame a sluggish start to work his way back into a podium place by the end of the 90 minute race. Dexter Hind continues to impress with his cool riding style, usually feet up, Hind held a 3 minute lead at the flag. Charlie Schofield was runner up with Annabelle Bolt rounding out the youth B on her little 57 plate 65 Husky.

Fraiser Lampkin

A Packed adult race had a slight delay due to the amount of Day entries which the sunshine brought out. With RAW Marshals linking in two extra sections of track to test the larger bikes, Wayne Braybrook dropped the flag on the Expert row at 11:15 precisely.

Callum Hughes took the Expert Holeshot on his RAW supported Beta, followed by a trio of Team Steer riders around lap 1. Setting a hot pace it was over to the more experienced riders like Joe Deakin and Lee Sampson to hit the front and reel off the laps. Hughes had a disaster on lap 7 when a heavy impact with a tree smashed his front wheel forcing retirement. Deakin went on to push hard in the closing stages grabbing the extra lap over his expert rivals at the flag. Team Steer filled the expert podium with Lee Sampson and Declan Helliwell sitting P2 and P3.

RAW Enduro Clubman rider Josh Knight was another man on a mission, again grabbing the extra lap for his efforts, Josh Smashed the Clubman win on his 250 Beta. Tom Slater held on to runner-up place by just 10 seconds at the flag from RAW Regular Chris Bailey. Lee Stansfield enjoys his return to riding competitively in the Clubman Vets, his win over Alex Owen was another close battle with just 35 seconds separating them.

Ben Holmes reeled off a very impressive 9 laps to win the Novice Class, the Over 50s was again won by Mark Raynor who seems unstoppable in that class, however, Ashley Jones is getting closer week by week. Fresh from his TT work, (and holiday) commitments Rob Swinbank rode his local race and grabbed third on the day.

Hayden Stansfield

Hayden Stansfield is really progressing at a good rate in his first adult season. Sportsman winner again was the second family win of the day, with Niall Bowker pushing him hard gaining runner up place. Ryan Stoneley is on the verge of grabbing a win in class when the cards fall his way. Rob Miller has his sights set on the 2022 Championship in the Sportsman Vets class, another win for Rob at Catterick by 4 minutes from Mick Robson was another good haul of championship points.

Catterick has already been graded up so it can rest before the final two rounds of the British Enduro Championship roll in on the last weekend in September.

Huge thanks to all who attended this weekend, and a special thanks to the Marshals who are fluid in the way they keep RAW events safe and measured.

A huge amount of work has gone into securing this Military site for RAW Enduro exclusive use. The key is protection and respect for the ground, this is a super busy Military site, RAW Customers you really did all do your bit taking care of the site, no litter left, and this is one area that will allow us to keep using this site.
