Kirby leads the pack! Portsmouth MXC Club Championship Rounds 6 & 7 – Race Report & Results

The Juniors got Portsmouth MXC’s two day event at Cusses Gorse underway which was rounds 6 and 7 of their 2022 Club Championship.

The youngster Will Kremer led moto one from start to finish in what was a fantastic display of skills. A string of bad results after race one did leave him only taking home a 3rd overall. Spencer Newman stayed calm and consistent throughout day 1 with a 2,2,2 for second. It was Dylan Standing who took the win on Saturday wit a good set of results (3,1,1).

The Veterans hit the track with the Mx1 for some more championship battles. Brad Aspden sat out of this one which meant Mark Morris Senior was in a league of his own at the front claiming maximum points (1,1,1). Sam lewis rode in for second place with some good results of 2,2,3. Dan Cavangah came out fighting for a good result too and saved his best race result until the last moto. He went 3,3,2 for 3rd overall.

The Mx1 was a mixed bag of riders on the saturday. Tallon aspden led a few motos but was no match for Gas Gas rider Dominic Newbury!. Dom came from the pack to check out all 3 motos with ease. He went 1,1,1 for a first place finish. Aspden came in second with his impressive 4,3,3. The steps were rounded off by Charlie Way.

Callum Jones returned to the Youth class at Portsmouth looking for some glory. He didn’t get the win but instead a solid 3rd overall after a hard days riding. Consistency from Joe Crackell meant that he walked away with a 2nd (2,2,2). Tyler Kirby hit the rack on a brand new 250f. He had a clean sweep and won all three for 1st overall

Mx2 was led by Dominic Newbury who had also won the Mx1. The young lad was on top form using this meeting as good practice for the national series he’s racing this year. A 2,1,1 secured the win. Jamie watson did get a race win in classy style. He made the famous whoop section look easy. He went 1,2,3. Luke Southern didn’t put on the best show but he was still right up there in the overall results! He took home a third.

Fabian Junior Morrison came out to play in the Big wheels but a few bad results left him just outside the top 3. Riley Saunders grabbed 3rd overall with results of 5,8,3. 1st place was left to be battled out between two riders. By far the best group to watch on the day. The overall was claimed by Lewis Evans (2,1,1). Rocco Hands settled for a steady second (4,2,2).

Yet again Ryan Clift dominated the Small wheels class. It’s becoming a regular occurrence and he is definitely showing his teeth. Currently one of the best riders coming through the sport, he swept up all 3 motos. The rest of the podium was up for the taking with Jack Dugmore finishing 2nd and Toby bond taking 3rd with his 3,3,11.

The cadets were taken by Tommy Wood he yet again got the win. He made the big jumps and deep ruts at cusses look easy. He won all 3 motos. Freddy Graham didn’t mess around getting himself right up the front of the class too. His amazing results of 3,2,2 bagged him second. Third overall was taken home by Jimmy Ball.

Day Two

The Juniors had some great racing on show during day two at Cusses Gorse! It was a close run set of motos from the Spencer Newman commanded his class all day. His results of 1,1,1 got the overall secured for him. The rest of the podium was for the taking with the majority of the riders in the class showing their talent. Dylan standing claimed second and Henry lewis grabbed the last spot on the box.

Yet again Mark Morris was the dominator in The premier class. Another 3 moto wins for the current vets champion. His first championship rounds on his new honda; he scored maximum points again (1,1,1). Gary Southern was looking for a top 3 finish but just missed out to Jack overing who took 3rd. Brad Humphrey was in the mix too and took 2nd overall.

Mx1 was mixed with the Vmx which provided the spectators with some entertainment. Bailey Betsworth was on fire. He was unbeatable. Some breathtaking racing from him and 3 wins to grab the overall on the day. Tallon Aspden and Dan Lawler battled out for second place. Aspden got the results to claim it (3,2,2). This left Lawler with a well deserved 3rd place overall.

Tyler Kirby swept up all three motos in the Rookies. He is having a fantastic season and making light work of the youth class. Callum Jones was back again giving it his all and managed to grab a second overall (2,3,3). A few mistakes and a flat tyre meant that Joe Cracknell gave away his spot on the podium and dropped crucial championship points. This meant that it was Charlie Gutteridge who claimed 3rd.

Luke Southern walked all over the Mx2 class. He was back to his usual form and made the 3 race wins look easy throughout the day. Mark Atkinson had to settle with a second against the youngster Southern. Mark’s results were consistent throughout the day 2,2,2. Third was for the taking, it was Tom Chesterman who fought hard to claim it.

The Big wheels overall were nabbed by Lewis Evans. He put in a fantastic performance and went 2,1,2. A fantastic race win from the newly picked up Gabriel Ktm rider Alfie payne still wasn’t enough to claim second overall. Second went to Rocco Hands with his 3,3,1. Payne had to go home with 3rd overall after 1,4,4.

The Small Wheels were next out on the track. It was Ryan Clift that ruled the class in all 3 races going 1,1,1 to take the overall. Not far behind Ryan, was Marley Alder who went 2,3,2 for second overall in his class. Jacob luker rode hard all day to gain him the last spot on the podium in his group.

The Autos were governed by young Tommy Wood. He’s been on top form all season and grabbed another 3 results of 1,1,1. Freddy Graham also rode beyond belief and managed to affirm 3 results of 2,2,2 for second overall. Mason Staddon made the track look easy with what seemed like effortless riding. It was an unbelievable display of skills from the upcoming rider. He claimed 3rd.
