Kirby blasts to 2024 Witley Boxing Day Enduro victory – Results

Kirby blasts to 2024 Witley Boxing Day Enduro victory

The Witley & District MCC held their Boxing Day Enduro at Woodbury Lane, near Emsworth. It was the last event in the club’s 100th Anniversary Year, and the winner was Witley MCC club member Josh Kirby. Josh gained the lead on lap one and remained at the front for the duration.

The course was typical Woodbury Lane, the very best slippery mud or the very worse slippery mud, each description will depend on how your day went and if you managed to finish or not. For most it was an energy sapping day, just trying to keep going forwards was a heavy task for most, if it wasn’t slippery mud sending your wheels just where you didn’t want them, it would be hidden tree roots or old ruts catching you out.

As the time ticked slowly by the course got worn and the muddy slop appeared, halfway through the event the pit became a bike park with many a rider taking a breather, using the time to clear the thick mud from blocked radiator grills.

The skilled, brave and the foolhardy chose to stay out on the track, many of those had the talent to make the slippery mud look like tarmac, so much talent and skill that 16 minute laps were recorded constantly for the whole 3 hours.

For the rest, just getting to finish required a huge effort that they will undoubtedly be reminded of when the aches and pains start to surface over the next few days.

The club said about the event, “Thank you and well done to all those that took part today, you will each have a different story to tell about your ride, however, there is one part that will be the same for everyone, that will be just how bloody hard it was!

“Hopefully for those that rode, they will remember this last ride at the Woodbury Lane and that it didn’t disappoint. It’s a real shame that we have to say goodbye to this venue, in two years time I know we will hear someone say “do you remember Woodbury Lane in the mud, what a great place, it a real shame it’s gone!”.

“We at Witley would like to thank PMCRC for letting us have the venue for the last major event, many thanks to all the Witley team the put the event on, notably Rob for the course planning, Ross, Crafty and

“Neil for being out there taking the whole course down, Gords, Guy, Shaun and Lily May for keeping the chaos of signing on to a minimum, Arnie, Dave, Barry, Adam, Simon, Elliot and everyone else wearing a gilets jaune for keeping the day running smoothly. Also a huge thank you to Paula and Manny for doing the timing.

All of your hard work made BXDE 24 another great W&DMCC event, Thank you”
