Josh Gilbert wins 2022 Huck Cup! Mike Brown Memorial Motocross & Huck Cup – Race Report & Results

The Easter sun was scorching down on Marshfield which hosted the 2022 Mike Brown Memorial Motocross and Huck Cup event which attracted probably its biggest ever crowd.

The first Huck Cup moto began with a false start but after the rerack, it was John Adamson with the holeshot, but it was 2017 champion Luke Hawkins that circulated in the lead which he held for just over a lap before Josh Gilbert made his move to the front. Behind Gilbert, Conrad Mewse and Tommy Searle were working their way through the pack with the latter having a howler from the traps. A mistake by Gilbert saw Mewse take to the front on lap five where he stayed until the chequers ahead of Gilbert, Searle an impressive Jake Shipton on his race comeback, and Adamson.

Mewse had a nightmare at the start of moto two, his front wheel washing out on the second bend putting him in dead last and with a mountain to claim if he was to replicate his 2018 title win. Gilbert got himself to the front early ahead of Glenn McCormick, Liam Knight and Shipton with Searle once again suffering from a poor gate. While Gilbert was stretching his lead at the front Mewse was frantically working si way through the field, working his way up to third and on the tail of Searle by mid moto, but Searle kept him at bay to secure second behind Gilbert with Mewse third, McCormick fourth and Shipton fifth.

So the 2022 Huck Cup went the way over Josh Gilbert with Conrad Mewse second and Tommy Searle third.

In the Mike Brown Memorial trophy, local legend Brian Wheeler was unstoppable and roared to a double win and the overall ahead of Ryan Williams and Kevin Sanders.

The Expert Unlimted class saw Joe Jones earn himself the number one spot on the podium with Mark Young second, Harry Linton third.

Over in the Seniors, Sonny Shipton went 2-2-1 to take the overall, while in the Juniors Lewis Couzens got the job done and won on the day with two moto victories.

In the Southern Vets Over 50’s 2 Strokes Rich Vincent maxed out for the win and in the 4 Strokes Christopher Brown was the victor.

Well done to everyone involved for once again putting on a fantastic event.
