Home Comforts for Young Starlet Leeks who wins final DISS MCC Motocross meeting of 2024

On Sunday, September 22nd, Diss MCC hosted its final MX meeting with two all-comer groups, a round of the NGR championship, and the South-Eastern evos at Wattisfield Hall. With the forecast predicting rain, the track crew prepared the track accordingly and put on a fantastic race meeting.

The all-comers groups were split depending on their best qualifying lap times. Sponsor Evan Worby gave bonus prize money for the fastest lap in any of the qualifying or race sessions, and GMC Interiors put up prize money for the holeshot award, so it was all to play for as the race action kicked off.

Allcomers A group race 1 saw Max Broadbelt get out of the gate quickest and control the race to the chequered flag. Second was the local star Joseph Leeks (Lings Husqvarna), and third was Joe Jones. Ollie Brader and Chester Hyde, who was returning from a long injury lay-off, would finish inside the top 5.

In race 2, Max Broadbelt again was dominant as Joe Leeks made two costly errors in the battle of the top 5. As the race drew to a close and the last lap flag came out, it was a bizarre moment from the leader Broadbelt, who seemingly thought the chequered flag came out and pulled off the track and back to the pits! This would leave the race win to Joe Jones and Joe Leeks in second, Kayden Smith (Lings Triumph) was third.

The last Allcomers A race of the day saw Joe Leeks on his home track take a start-to-finish race win, defying pressure from behind by Broadbelt, who would finish second, and Jones, who was third. Chester Hyde would get his best result in the afternoon with fourth.

The overall award goes to Leeks, who tops off a productive 2024 season. Joe Jones would take second overall, and Chester Hyde would take third. The Evan Worby-sponsored fastest lap award would go to Max Broadbelt from race one, who had a 1:33.033.

Shaun Tacey took the Allcomers B group overall honours with a 2-1-1 ahead of Craig Page-Baker with a 1-3-2. In third was Sam Whittred with a 4-2-3.

In the NGR championship, Aaron Hopkins extended his points lead as he comfortably won the first race, then went on to finish second in the next two races. John Hinz finished second in the first race and then took the final two race wins, meaning we would take the overall ahead of Hopkins.

In the South-eastern evo group, Shane Lock won race one and was in control of race two before bike problems ruled him out, meaning Chris Thorpe won race 2. In race 3, Ryan Matthews and Chris Thorpe put on a bar-to-bar display at the front, and on the final lap, Matthews took the lead and went on to win his first race of the day.

The Diss MCC would like to thank you for your support in 2024 and look forward to welcoming you back next year!
