Well to say this has been a strange year would be the understatement of the century however, it has not stopped the team at Cumbria Mx fitting in a 6 round Championship that has attracted some of the countries best Adults and Youth riders, some of the best racing, biggest entries and giving families almost a mini holiday by the seaside at these difficult times.

The final rounds were held this weekend, on what should also have been the Thomas Brown Memorial weekend, unfortunately, due to restrictions in place the dedicated committee decided to postpone to 2021, Thomas was all in our thoughts however.
After practice, the Autos were first up, and making another 6plus hours trip down from Scotland Ricky Barrack was out front and long gone, despite a fall on corner 2 in moto 1. With Harry Dale missing this weekend, Ricky will be waiting for the championship standings to see if he’s done enough to take the Championship. As always there was great racing in the Autos with 2 many names to mention, Jakson Ross and Brooklyn Tinkler completed the podium after a P4 in moto 3.
Yamaha dominated the 65s class, with Joel Winstanley Dawson taking a very impressive maximum points haul from Saturday. Finley Pickering went 2.3.2 after a late entry following the cancellation of the ACY Champion of Champions event. Owen Kenningley finished a consistent season with another podium in 3rd.
Will Haddock took the S/W 85 class by storm, going 1-1-1 onboard his KTM, Ben McConville second and Dylan Davidson battled out second and third ahead of the unfortunate Jake Robley who was left to rue a moto1 fall.
The 85 B//W class saw a brilliant battle for the lead in moto one between Jay Cheel and Max Harris. Cheel was able to win the battle after closing the gap on Harris on one of the tracks split sections and that was how the overall also finished, with Kerr Thompson coming home in third place before a possible move onto the 125s.
A final Race shoot-out was needed in the Rookies class, Corey Collins and Robbie Park had been at it all day, and Collins just pipped Park in the final moto although that may be enough for Park to take the Championship in his first year on the 125. Koby Newbauld built on a moto 1 4th to go 2-3 and take 3rd overall.
Another stacked A class, hit the track a full gas, Matt Moffatt taking the holeshot in moto 1, and what a battle that started, after some bar rubbing Calum Mitchell took the lead, Lewis Hall tracked him down, and passed up the inside and all looked done, however, behind, Brad Anderson was on an almighty charge, unfortunately, losing traction on the second last corner preventing what could have been an interesting last corner. Overall though after a moto 1 4th Jason Meara took the overall ahead of Anderson with Mitchell in third.
The quality racing showed no signs of stopping in the B class, with several riders still in with a shot of the overall going into moto3. A 3rd was enough though for Richard Miller to take the top step. Adam Brayton took his Honda home for 2 wins on the day to have second overall before switching back to mountain bikes Sunday, Charlie Green took the final podium step.
On the weekend when we were supposed to be celebrating the #44 of Thomas Brown, a fellow #44 racer Jack Radcliffe went 1-1-1 in the Adult under 30s, Cody Janowiak solid all day took second overall from Jack Sutcliffe in third.
Sunday came and first up were again the Autos, and again Ricky Barrack was the one to beat taking the overall, Jude Richards on the Cobra in second and on Saturday Brooklyn Tinkler in third. Think everyone will agree that the Auto class has been brilliant this year, from the countries very best, to newbies but all fair fun racing, and a few more miles ran for the Auto parents.
Joel Winstanley Dawson completed a 1-1 weekend with an impressive win in the 65s to complete a solid season, Finley Pickering followed him home with Lucas Le improving from Saturdays result in third.
The S/W 85s next and another Maximum for Will Haddock making the trip North to Cumbria, Lucan Moncrieff took the second podium step and Carlisle’s Jake Robley third.
It was the Cheel and Harris show again in the Big Wheels with Cheel again taking the win before heading home to the North East, Kerr Tompson once again had to settle for the third podium step.
The Rookies next, and another last race shoot-out involving Robbie Park, this time with Harvey Tillitson and it was Tillitson who took the honours, Koby Newbold completed the top 3 as he did the previous day.
Calum Mitchel was in no mood to let a lead slip on Sunday before the long trip home, he pipped Carlton Husband to the top stop. Husband had been unlucky the day before with 2 DNF’S. Lewis Hall completed the top 3 whilst getting used to the KTM.
Danny Tollet was the man to beat in the Adult B Class, its always great to see the numbers entered that allows the A and B class to run separate and racing was brilliant in both. Charlie Green took another podium with a second and John Joe Wright racing in the Bs in third.
The C under 30 class lined up with a full gate, and again it was Jack Radcliffe Cody Janowiak and Jack Sutcliffe the three at the top with a clean first corner the key for these three as the weekend progressed.
Finally up to the start line was the Adult over 30/Vets class, Martyn Gregory took the maximum 135 points on offer, Lee Spur went 2-2-2 to take second overall with Tony Whitelaw completing the top 3.
So that concluded the season at Route44 with Cumbria MX, we have been blessed with good weather, turnouts that we have not seen in Cumbria for a while, and some of the countries best, there will not be another Club Championship with the number of top Uk Mx names in the final championship standings for this year I would bet. Onto 2021.
