The Belgian Randy Naveaux in the quads, and the Englishman Todd Kellett, of the Yamaha Dragon Tek team, are the two winners of the Gurp TT, 6th round of the 3AS France Sand Racing Championship, held this Sunday in Grayan-et-L’Hôpital. Randy Naveaux wins the title of Champion of France even before the last round at Le Touquet in three weeks. Kellett, on the other hand, took his first win of the season. He finished ahead of Belgium’s Cyril Genot and Dutchman Lars Van Berkel, two riders of the Honda SR Motoblouz team. Milko Potisek (Yamaha Dragon Tek), who finished 3rd, was disqualified for pit stops. Jérémy Hauquier (Honda) and Mathéo Miot (Yamaha) made it into the top 5. In the general classification of the championship, Cyril Genot maintains his lead before the last event of the season, in 3 weeks’ time, in Le Touquet.

400 riders took the start of the motorcycle race shortly before 2 p.m., on a new track only in the middle of the pines, and no longer on the beach. Mathéo Miot (Yamaha Sand Racing) made the best start but on the first lap Kellett took the lead. The Englishman, injured at Berck at the beginning of the season, rediscovered his impressive pace of last year and widened the gap on his pursuers in the first laps. Potisek and Genot resisted as best they could, the Belgian having to deal with a very painful right knee since his crash in St-Léger. Further back were Yentel Martens (Honda) and Camille Chapelière (KTM). At the start of the final hour of the race, Kellett had made the gap and was more than a minute ahead of Genot and Potisek. He was never caught again and won his first race of the season by 1 minute 30 seconds. In the women’s race, Mathilde Martinez (Honda) took advantage of a crash by Amandine Verstappen (Yamaha) on the last lap to win the race. A feat for his first appearance on the CFS.
In the Quad category, Randy Naveaux (Yamaha) took his 6th victory of the season in 6 races. But this time he had to fight hard with Antoine Cheurlin (Yamaha), who was in contact for 1h30 of the race before giving up at the end. Naveaux won with a 1 minute lead over Cheurlin while Benoit Béroudiaux completed the podium. In the women’s category, Belgium’s Kelly Verstappen (W-Tech) won for the 5th time this season.
The other winners of the weekend were Jenairo Beerens (HOL, KTM) and Lea Lesoil (KTM) in Espoirs; Damien Knuiman (HOL, KTM) and Ema Satabin (Gas Gas), who won the title of champion of France, in the Juniors. In the Vintage category, David Herbreteau (Honda) took his 5th consecutive victory of the season and the championship title.
