Golden Oldies. Minibike of Nations – Report and Results

Golden Oldies. Minibike of Nations

The first ever Minibike of Nations took place yesterday at Kieradan Park as a fantastic precursor to a full-on weekend of Minibike World Championship action.

Following a day of practice and qualifying for the MWC there was a Ride for Mickey lap with over 200 Minibikers taking to the track, lead by Minibike Champs boss Jamie Courtney, in tribute to 12 year old Mickey Bennett who passed away last week after a brave battle with cancer. Ride in Peace Mickey #7

All eyes were on the start grid then as the Team members gathered to do battle for their respective teams in the Minibike of Nations, in a one race takes all format, with a Team’s top two scores counting.

Over 200 riders gathered for the Lap for Mickey #7

As the dust settled on the first lap it was Nathan Marsden of the England Over 35’s team with the lead, followed by the England Under 35 racer Blaine Blackwell.  Jody Burton another of the Over 35’s was holding third and with Blackwell’s team mate Ewan Goddard in fifth it was imperative he made a move if the Unders were to prevail, as only two riders scores were to count.  The team Mickey trio was also well represented with Dave Lamb holding 4th. Ash Gorman was rifling through the pack too, and both he and Goddard were to move past Lamb, but it was all to no avail as Marsden and Burton held firm in their places earning them with their team mate Lee Mitchell the Nation’s title ahead of England Under 35’s with the Team Mickey Trio of Lamb, Aussie Kevin Doolan and Andrew Luke making up the podium.

The strong Welsh attack failed to materialise with the fastest qualifier from the day Dom Foreman suffering from a DNF.

It’s back to individual racing for the next two days and we looking forward to seeing who will be crowned World Champions after five intense races.
