Dean Wilson on his AX debut “I expect myself to win.”

Dean Wilson on his AX debut "I expect myself to win."

One rider British Arenacross fans were most looking forward to seeing at the AX World Tour Opener in Birmingham was AMA Supercross hero Dean Wilson, who didn’t disappoint both on and off the track, spending a load of time signing autographs and coming away with third in the Pro Main event.

Starts hampered the Scottish-born rider, who is a little ring rusty after suffering a shoulder injury in the World Supercross Championship after a much talked about collision with Vince Friese.

As expected, Wilson certainly has the speed to be a contender and is the series leader in the British Arenacross Championship.

Commenting on his first ever Arenacross in the U.K, Dean said, “Arenacross is tough man. I knew it would be, especially coming in under prepared due to my shoulder injury.

“Obviously, I haven’t had as much time on the bike as I would like so it’s going to be a case of racing myself back into shape, I think. There are some quick riders out there and anything goes in Arenacross, which makes it hard, especially if you don’t get a good start….. and I didn’t, so that’s something I need to work on.

“I’ll take a third but I want to win and I expect myself to win. It’s nice to come away with the win in the British championship, though, so hopefully, I can keep that going right to the end. It’s been a lot of fun and I’m really impressed with the whole show that the guys here lay on for the fans with the track walks and stuff like that. The autograph queue was massive, and I enjoyed chatting to the fans and being back in the U.K.”
