Countdown to Cusses! 2023 Bridgestone British Masters Round 2 – Preview, Event info & Pro Entry List!

For the final time, the Bridgestone British Masters Motocross Championship will visit the Cusses Gorse Motocross track in Wiltshire this weekend for round 2 of their 2023 series.

The circuit which is managed and prepped by Justin Barclay has announced it will be closing for good on September 30th so, what has been a regular for the Bridgestone Masters will not be on the calendar going forward.

Looking to sign off at Cusses Gorse with a win in the Pro Elite MX1 class will be Crendon Fastrack Honda’s Josh Gilbert who took the win over his team mate Conrad Mewse in Round 1 at Preston Docks. Mewse and third placed rider from R1 Miro Sihvonen aren’t on the entry list for this weekend so this will give Gilbert the opportunity to gap his rivals if he can continue his great run of 2023 form.  In the standings Liam Knight and Steven Clarke are Gilbert’s closest rivals but the likes of John Adamson, Jamie Carpenter, Evgeny Bobryshev, Tom Grimshaw, Dan Thornhill and Jay Hague will all be expected to be at the sharp end.

The retired but not retired, two stroke king Brad Anderson leads the field in the Pro Elite MX2 Category and based on points his two closest rivals are Uldis Freibergs who was fourth at Preston Docks and Callum Mitchell.  Some interesting additions though are the bang in form Charlie Cole and young gun Billy Askew who will both be gunning for their first ever Pro wins. Glenn Mccormick will be another rider who could push for a podium.  Carlton Husband is also down as an MX2 rider and will certainly be a contender too.

Alongside the Pro classes which only run on the Sunday are a whole host of Youth and Adult classes which are set to do battle over the two days.

Starting with the smallest racers, the Junior 65’s the top three in the championship are split by just four points so expect the competition to be hot between Harley Marczak, Casey Lister and Cohen Jagielski.

Olly Waters fired in three wins at Preston Docks in the Small Wheel 85’s, with his only defeat coming at the hands of Joel Winstanley-Dawson who will fired up to claw back the 8 point deficit at Cusses, as will Jenson Severn and Jack Leese who sit in third and fourth going into round 2.

With four wins from four Josh Vail was unstoppable at Round 1, but to keep up this record he will have to contend with a long line of challengers including Jorge Parkin and Zane Stephens.

Bayliss Utting tops the standings in the MXY2 youth class and has already chocked up an 18 point lead at the top of the table so the likes of Jak Taylor, Joseph Leeks, Liam Bennett and Josh Bassett will need to be at their best to start to reel in the series leader.

The super competitive 125cc class is stacked with talent. Coming away from Preston Docks with the lead was Samuel Price, but he has the likes of Freddie Gardiner, Beau Brown and Troy Willerton to contend with so he won’t be able to get too complacent.

The Amateur MX1 class is always entertaining with a whole host of riders capable of pulling out a moto win or two on their day. As it stands Max Lewis is the Red Plate holder over John Joe Wright and Harrison McCann.

In the Amateur MX2 class the race wins were share around a gaggle of riders and with results up and down throughout the field just 16 points separate the top five who sit in the table in the following order, Rory Jones, Ben Clark,Henry Siddiqui, and Callum Murfitt so this will be an interesting one to watch.

Like the Amateur MX2 class, the Clubman shared moto wins at Preston Docks with Mitchell Collins coming good on two occasions to eke out a 16 point lead in the series, but Daniel Chapman, Nathan Heath, Kane Fisher and Colin Luckie all have it in their locker to take a chequered flag or two.
