Conrad Mewse shows British grit racing his second MXON moto with a Broken Ankle!

Conrad Mewse shows British grit racing his second MXON moto with a Broken Ankle!

Expectations were high for a big Motocross of Nations performance from Team GB’s Conrad Mewse after his phenomenal 29-second win over Jeffrey Herlings at Preston Docks in the British Championship a couple of weeks back, and the Crendon Tru7 Honda didn’t disappoint with a committed performance that included racing a good portion of his second moto with a broken ankle.

Mewse started his weekend with some good speed in Free Practice, finishing the session in fourth with a fastest lap time, just 1.1 seconds behind Australian ace Jett Lawrence, and ahead of the likes of Team Netherlands Glenn Coldenhoff and American favourite Aaron Plessinger.

In the Open class Ram Qualifying race, he was back at it again, scything his way through the pack to finish an excellent fourth. Conrad’s standout ride, though, was in the second MXON main race on Sunday. He recovered from a poor start, being down in 24th on the first lap, to finish an exceptional sixth, passing the likes of Plessinger, Cooper Webb, Jago Geerts, and more on the way to one of, if not the ride of his career.

The third moto, though, was to be gruelling for the West Country racer. He had made a mistake early in the moto, which resulted in a broken ankle bone, but showing pure British grit, he stuck it out to finish 19th in the toughest race of the day. This showed the huge crowd that he most certainly has what it takes to mix it with the best riders in the World.

On his Instagram profile, he said of his weekend.

“What a weekend🇬🇧
firstly I appreciate every single one of you that showed your support. @teamgbmxon had a tough weekend but we didn’t give up.
I had a really good day going until unfortunately a little mistake early on in Moto 2 resulted in a broken ankle bone so 6-19 was all I could manage🤦🏽‍♂️
Heart was on the sleeve all weekend and I’m proud to say I gave it 110% for my country.
Cheers @maxanstie @tommysearle100”
