Burgess shines at Bevercotes! Toughsheet National Twinshock Championship Round 2 – Race Report & Results

The Nottingham Twinshock Club were hosts for the second round of the Toughsheet National Twinshock Championships at the AMCA track at Bevercotes last Sunday supported by DobShox. And for once the weather was superb, which meant that the hillside track required some heavy watering, and some big changes due to badger sets, and the ultra-dry sandy soil which dries to powder when the sun shines. The club did all they could to run on the grassy parts available.

Another 200 plus entry turned up to the track which has been in use for decades and has seen some great racing over the years. Several red flags did delay proceedings, but all three blocks were completed which was testament to the perseverance of the club members.

The first class to the line was the Hazport Vets Modern, with the Over 40’s and 50’s racing together with every gate taken up.
In the Over 40’s Danny Blakeley on his two stroke Yamaha was on fire and took two of the three race wins to win the overall. Debutant John Butler was delighted to win race three and took the runner up spot from Adam Wilkinson on the KTM 125 in third. Jonno White, riding with injured ribs from Polesworth took fourth.

John Butler took runner up in the Vets Class

The Over 50 class saw victory for Dob Shox and former IMBA champion Julian Dobb with a clean sweep. Steve Ward kept up his good run of form in second, and club helper Nev King took third from Marc Spruce and Tim Sabine.

In the Wulfsport Experts Twinshock reigning champion Jimmy Margetson was back in the fold and got the better of teammate Brad O’Leary by two race wins to one. The Maicos were really on song as they battled closely throughout all three races. Ben Margetson the third member of Bill Browns boys, was always among the front runners and took third, from Michael Smith and Albert Martindale.

It was hard work for the WLB Fitness 125 Twinshock bikes as the riders needed all their skill on the steep climbs, and programme cover rider John Davis tied with Matt Rudd on points, but his better result in the final race saw him take the top step on the podium. Jason Slater came third but was delighted with his final race win. Ian Knight and Richard Wood completed the top five.

The Falcon Shocks 250 twinshock class saw victory for Ryan Ireland who took two race wins, with third race winner Anthony Twidle in second. Sean Dodders was flying and managed third overall on the day.

Corey Nemeth seemed to love the circuit, and in the WLB Fitness Evo 125 class, he coasted to three faultless wins, and was awarded the Martindales Rider of the Meeting award. Andy Lawton continued his run of hole shots, but just could not keep up with the pace of Nemeth and had to settle for three seconds. Jack May just edged out John Butler for third place, and fifth went to Scott Mathia who managed to take a win in race three.

There were a few wildcard riders in the Phoenix Motos Clubman Twinshock class, and in race one former AMCA Champion Brendan Rowett rolled back the years to win the first race, after which he upgraded himself to the Inters class. This left the field wide open for the remaining races, and the next two races and the overall victory went to Ellie Blacklock, who became only the second ever lady rider to win a National Twinshock race. Chris Rogerson just edged out Neil Eastwood for second, and Mark Gardner made the long journey from South Wales worthwhile in fourth from Simon Young.

The Woodys Evo Open class saw some titanic battles between Michael Ogden and Barry Turnbull, but it was Ogden who edged the victory by two race wines to one. Dan Shepherd had his best result so far in third on the 250 Yamaha, winning a tie break from Danny Blakeley in fourth and Callum Bircher in fifth.

The SN Properties Super Evo class had their own race at this round, and it was another masterclass from Corey Nemeth who took all three wins. Ben Parkinson was runner up with three top three finishes. Lee Holland was top four all day and toof third, from fast gating Grant Hacking and Jak Dinsley.

Corey Nemeth was the Martindales Rider of the Meeting after winning both the Evo 125’s and Super Evo classes

Willie Burgess won the battle of the MotoX Concepts Over 50 Twinshock class with three start to finish victories, but Kevin Reed was always in the hunt and took second in each race. Mike Davies was not too far behind in third, with Pete Williamson and Jim Shand completing the podium. Pat Rowe was on fire in the Over 60 class and took all three wins. Terry Connor had his best ever result in second from Jerseys Wayne Le Marquand.

In the CI Sport Inters class Dean Gray took the Yamaha to overall victory with a couple of wins. Thomas Spencer won race one which helped him to the runner up berth. Ben Butterworth was also in the groove in third from Ryland Jones and Steve Morgan.

Pat Rowe took the MotoX Concepts Over 60 class victory

It was a very trying event for the club, but they came through and should be proud of pulling it off with all that was thrown at them on the day. The next round is at the Grange, Tern Hill on Sunday June 13th.
