Bish Bash Josh! 2024 Acerbis Amateur Nationals Round 3

After a change of venue from Fatcats, the Acerbis Amatuer National series rolled into sunny Marshfield for round three and with the series hitting the halfway mark after this round its crunch time in the scraps for them vital championship points.

The California MX Dreams Open 2 stroke class were first up this weekend, and we were treated with some fantastic racing throughout as Rory Jones came out on top with three wins and a third spot, clearly back to full fitness after his injury earlier in the year. Joe Jones pushed all the way and was in the fight for a moto win in the third outing, where a last-lap crash let Rory off the hook, but runner-up on the weekend was what he had to settle for in the end. Lee Truman took the second race victory on his way to third overall, while series leader Patrick Jackson was slightly off the pace and had to settle for fourth, still bagging good points for the championship.

Joe Jordan

Just like the Open 2 stroke class, the Moto Connection 125 2 stroke category was a closely fought affair with any of 5 riders being able to take victory. Local wildcard Paul Neal eventually came out on top with three wins and a sixth to take the honours after a fierce scrap in the final moto with Harry Linton, Ryan Waggott and Luke Dean. Waggott managed to pip Linton to runner-up overall by just a single point, while Luke Dean had a front wheel puncture in Moto 2, which hindered his overall from standing on the podium. Damon Strydom was never far away and was rewarded with fourth overall, keeping his championship fight alive.

Reece Wain

In the hotly contested Acerbis MX1 class, the top two of Josh Spinks and Chris Mills were separated by just two points coming into the weekend, with the KTM man having the upper hand. However, Marshfield suited Spinks down to the ground as he took home a maximum points haul and added an extra 8 points onto the lead as Mills finished runner-up in each of the four motos. Jayden Ashwell, after a 5-5-7 start to the weekend, capped it off with a third in the final race, which boosted him to third overall, just a point ahead of FUS Marsh Honda man James Dodd.

Dominic Newbury

In the Craigs Motorcycles MX2 class, three riders have separated themselves from the rest of the pack. Henry Williams, Josh Waterman and Dominic Newbury are in a league of their own, and the champion will most likely come from one of the trio. Waterman found form this weekend and managed to take his first race wins and overall of the year, taking three wins and a runner-up spot. Williams finished runner-up and lost 8 points to Waterman in the points chase but will still have a decent cushion going into round four. Dominic Newbury was in the top 3 all weekend and was rewarded with third overall, while Zac Stealey and James Lassu rounded out the top five.

Henry Williams

With series leader Ben Walsh a no-show at round three, it was blown wide open once again in the Manchester Xtreme Junior Open category. Chris Jackson dominated the weekend as the wildcard rider had a perfect showing with four wins from four starts. Hayden Stevens did his championship challenge no harm at all, being the first registered rider overall in the second spot, just a couple of points ahead of Jack Griffiths. Sam Browning was another wildcard stepping up onto the podium, and Billy Wieczorek finished the weekend top five overall.

Leah Evans

In the Motoverde Ladies class, Grace Richards came in with a perfect score over the first two rounds; however, that was to come to an end at Marshfield as various issues over the weekend caused her to only finish runner-up overall. Non-registered rider Leah Evans put on a great performance over the weekend, taking two wins, a second and a fifth to claim the top spot from Richards on a tiebreak, the final race result deciding that outcome. Libby Chatburn was consistent in the top five all weekend and was rewarded third overall for her efforts, just two points ahead of Nadiya Jones in fourth.

Grace Richards

In the LS2 Helmets Vets Over 40 class, Welshman Glen Phillips made an appearance in the class for the first time after being in the MX1 category last year and led every lap over the weekend, dominating the weekend. Paul Jonty Johnston extended his series lead on his new KTM machine to over 30 points with a runner-up spot overall ahead of Alan Pearce, who had a solid weekend, finishing on the lower step of the rostrum. Lee Martin and Craig Chamberlain rounded out the top five.

Lee Sealey

Last up was the Roberts Plant Engineers Vets Over 50 class, which looked to be dominated by FUS Marsh GasGas man Phil Mercer; however, after his three wins to kick the weekend off with he had last race issues, meaning only a fourth place finish was achievable, which was just enough the stand on the top step once again as Brian Wheeler pulled his 500 Honda out for a blast around the Gloucestershire circuit and claimed the final moto victory along the way to come to within two points of the overall. Danny Tollett finished the weekend in third and scored some good points, while Sean Smith and Adrian Bradley rounded out the top five.

Corey Nemeth

Round 4 goes to another new venue for the series and to Penybont in Wales at the end of July.
