Bad news for British MXGP racer Ben Watson who has announced on his social media that he will be sitting out for the remainder of 2024. The MRT Beta racing rider has had a tough year with crashes and bad luck; although he has shown glimpses of the rider we know he is, and even with these setbacks, he is still sitting in 12th position in the World Championship.
The full statement from Ben is below:
“Unfortunately I’ll be out for a little while.. during moto 2 in Portugal I damaged my knee. I tried my best to continue racing the following 3 GPs, not only for myself but the people around me, but I just cannot continue to race on this level at 50% with an ACL injury. After finally being back inside the top 10 of the world championship standings it was a difficult decision to make but I am forced to get my body back to full health now so I can shift my focus to 2025 and be ready for the winter preperations to start. I apologise to Beta, the whole MRT Beta Racing Team and everyone who supports me 🙏🏼 I’ll be back.”
We wish Ben a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing him back on track in full health in 2025.
