Josh Gilbert and the Gabriel SS24 KTM team headed to the MXGP of Spain over the weekend, looking to put the injury disappointment of Argentina behind them.
Coming into the weekend, Josh worked hard on his recovery following his crash in Argentina. He went out for free practice – P20 and timed practice – P14 on Saturday and later lined up for the RAM qualifying race. He had a mega start starting inside the top 5 but a few corners in clipped another rider and went down. He then worked his way up from last to 18th and was riding strong until 4 laps to go when he started to struggle with his arm and faded to 20th.
In Sunday’s free practice session Josh noted that his arm felt weak and the decision was made to see the onsite medical crew for further tests. They diagnosed a cracked radius and this sadly meant he was not allowed to line up for the races, so has now set out a new recovery plan to be back to full fitness.
Josh: “Another really disappointing weekend. After Argentina I worked really hard on recovering for Spain thinking it was just muscle damage to my elbow. Unfortunately after Saturdays riding my arm felt really weak so we made the decision to go see the onsite medical crew to get further tests, the result ended in a fracture to my radius. Now it’s time to get back to work on my recovery and to get back to how I was feeling on and off the bike before Argentina!”
