First and foremost after the sad and unfortunate accident which cut short racing at the previous round at Foxhill our thoughts go out to Simon Mitchell’s family and friends. Simon was a passionate, excellent photographer and he will be missed in the British motocross paddock.
Hudson got off to a good start at Foxhill but the race was red flagged after two laps. In the restart he found himself way down the field but made a good come back to 8th by the end of the moto. Ollie was once again consistent in his lap times and was 6th across the finish line before the event was later cancelled and no second moto was run.
Round 4 saw blue skies and the always immaculate Blaxhall circuit looking prime. After working on his technique Hudson improved his starts, but then didn’t have the best opening laps in both motos. After several riders went by in moto one he found his rhythm and started to claw back, managing to pick a few riders off at the end of the moto for a 9th. In moto two he washed the front end in the first corner going for fourth and soon found himself dead last but he picked it up and charged through the pack for a well earned 8th place and now lies 8th in the championship. Ollie again made good starts but just couldn’t capitalise on them and like Hudson in moto one, lost a few places early in both motos but battled on for a 7-8 score and finished the day 4th in the championship.
Hudson Roper – #36 – YZ250F
“It’s been a better day than Foxhill. I’m happier with my starts after Jeff taught me a new technique in the week but a little frustrated I didn’t make them count. I’ve got to get better in those early laps. My pace is good at the end of the moto and compared to most of my rivals so I need to make sure I go with them from the start. Crashing on the first corner isn’t the one, especially when you’re at the front. That was quite scary but I got away with it, didn’t get hit when I was on the ground and got charging. I was pleased with how I rode in the second moto and I’m looking forward to taking that into the MX Nationals next weekend.”

Ollie Bubb – #44 – YZ125
“I’m annoyed with myself. I’m getting good starts but I’m just not aggressive enough for those early laps and I know it’s something I need to improve. I’m taking too long to find a rhythm and it’s costing me because I know I should be battling in that top five. I’m getting consistent results each time out, but not as high up as I want. The bike is great and I know I should be getting more out of it. Hopefully next weekend I will. I’m excited about the MX Nationals next week, the track looks awesome and I’m looking forward to racing there.”

“It’s been a good weekend of racing. I can’t fault the effort both lads put in but that doesn’t reflect in the results. I’m pleased we’ve made progress with Hudson’s starts because they need to be better if he’s going to start breaking that top five and pushing on for podiums, which he is capable of because he’s fast enough. Ollie is rock solid in his riding and has good technique and always consistent but he needs to find a way of upping the aggression and pace. Almost like he just needs that one break through race where he feels be belongs in that top bunch. Of course for his first year in the class to be fourth in the championship at the half way stage is good and shows his and the YZ125’s consistency so we’re happy with that.
Hopefully for the second part of the season he can push on and capitalise on his starts. Next weekend will be a good place to start on that at the new Monster Mountain venue. The track is big, fast and flowing so we’re looking forward to seeing the lads do their thing there.”
