2025 MXGB Race format – Qualifying & Last Chance Qualifiers

2025 MXGB Race format - Qualifying & Last Chance Qualifiers

The race format for the 2025 Motul ACU British Motocross Championship has been revealed to us on the All British Motocross Podcast, where we interviewed MXGB Series Director Paul Irwin.

With the series having over 40 riders registered for each class, it looks likely that more than 40 riders will enter each round, which means that there will be morning qualifying sessions, which will decide the first 36 riders to move onwards to the main MX1, MX2 and 125cc main races.

The next four riders to complete the 40 in the Main races will comprise the top four from Last Chance Qualifier races.

If there are over 50 riders entering a class, the Qualifying sessions will be split into A and B Groups, with the top 18 from each going through to the Main races and, again, the last four spaces being taken from the LCQ front runners.

Regarding the format, Paul Irwin said, “I didn’t want to be the guy who said, “You’re good enough to ride the British Championship, and I don’t think you are good enough.” To select 40 riders is really tough, we know there are more than 40 riders who want to sign up for these groups, and we have seen that in the registration process. I don’t want to be that person who hand picks these riders, or it’s based on who pays me first, it’s got to be on if you’re fast enough, you will qualify, and your speed will will get you a space in the British Championship. If not, please come back and try again. It’s there for everyone. If you are Expert level, come and try and ride a round of the British. If you are fast enough, you will qualify and get in.

“The format will be a little bit similar to GP’s, in that depending on how many entries there are we will edit the format from round to round, but the main six races will be the same. So there will be two races each that score points for the championship, but to qualify for that, we can take up to seventy-six 125s and seventy-six 250s, and I think we have set a limit of 50 MX1 riders. We can only have 50 guys on the circuit at once, so if we get more than 50 entries for a class, we will split the classes into A and B for qualifying, and you take 18 out of each class, and the rest will go to an LCQ. We won’t know that until the entries get to the last couple of weeks before the event.”

The 125s will have their own LCQ, while MX1 and MX2 will be joined with the top four finishers from each class making it through to the main races.

Each class Practice and Qualifying session will consist of:

  • 3 minutes Start practice
  • 10 minutes of Free Practice (5 minutes for the 125’s)
  • 15 minutes Timed Qualifying

Here is the Provisional schedule for Hawkstone, but this could change if more than 50 riders enter for a class, as the Qualifying sessions will need to be split into A & B.
