Jimmy’s world! 2025 AMCA British Motocross Championship Round 2 – Race Report & Results

Jimmy's world! 2025 AMCA British Motocross Championship Round 2 - Race Report & Results

On a revamped and expertly prepared Bromsberrow circuit, Uley MXC hosted round 2 of the 2025 AMCA British Motocross Championship last weekend. And, the combination of those prime track conditions coupled with pleasant, settled weather was the ingredients which helped ensure that this was to be another super Championship tussle.

Race Report and Images by Mike Wood

After starting with a classy maximum score at the opening round, young BW85cc pilot Stanley Siebert was at it again The KTM rider took all four victories at Bromsberrow but the likes of Sean Smout, Aston Whitehead, Alfie Pincher, Jimmy Whiston, Finn Fitzgerald and Archie Dixon certainly made him work hard for the wins. Indeed, Smout led both motos on day one before Siebert came storming through. Smout was to eventually go on to earn the overall runners-up slot with Whitehead bagging a richly deserved 3rd overall, a fair reward for a weekend of very determined performances. In a combined class which includes the SW85cc pilots, the younger racers certainly mixed it up. Freddie Smith in particular was right on it, scoring super 5th placings in both motoss two and three on his way to eventually earning the overall SW85cc win ahead of Harri Luckwell and George Milnes. With round one SW85cc victor Freddie Darvill a non-starter at Bromsberrow, Smith now also tops the Championship table from Milnes and Connor Johnston.

SW85cc winner Freddie Smith

Just like round one at Fatcat, the combined Open/MX2 class was to again produce an abundance of fast, bar-to-bar action and some outstanding entertainment. In Moto One, James Dodd was quickest away with Liam Gale, now certainly getting to grips with his big, blue Lane Racing Yamaha, Henry Williams, Charlie Palmer and Luke Bull in hot pursuit. Quickly, though, the likes of Jayden Ashwell, Josh Waterman and Luke Dean were charging hard and on the move up the leaderboard. As the clash was rapidly reaching its conclusion, there were to be some significant changes at the front end. As Doddy claimed victory ahead of his FUS Marsh Honda teammate Williams, Gale fell just four corners from home as the hard-charging AJP pilot Ashwell got home in 3rd from Dean and Waterman.

Liam Gale, 3rd in the Open class

Following a similar pattern, Dodd again led the second clash with Gale in tow, but this time Ashwell was on a mission. Getting up into 2nd on lap four, he then passed Dodd three circuits from home. Taking a strong 3rd and being first MX2 rider home, Waterman on the CPMX Racing KTM was next up from Dean, Gale, Williams, who had started right down in 16th and Luke Meredith.

MX2 runner up Henry Williams

Sunday’s motos were then to be all about the classy Dodd as he produced a couple of smooth, textbook wins. Early on in race three, Bull was right up there before losing the use of his front brake and bending his handlebars in a collision. So instead, it was fast Henry Williams grabbing 2nd again with Ashwell, Waterman, Daiyaan Manuel, Dean, Adam Wells and Will Hughes next best. After taking the overall runner-up slot during round one, Bromsberrow was not proving to be particularly productive for Will! In the last Open/MX2 moto of the weekend with Doddy scorching to victory, just as per the Fatcat action, Waterman was to finish with another storming ride by chasing all the way to the chequered flag, enough to also bag the overall MX2 top spot after finishing level on 92 points with Williams. As Ashwell produced another big ride to get home in 3rd, Wells had his best outing of the weekend by grabbing a great 4th from Williams, Dean and Gale. That result for Gale also saw him earn his first AMCA Open class Championship podium placing, surely there’s plenty more to come!

MX2 winner Josh Waterman

If round one had not gone totally to plan, reigning AMCA 125cc Champion Jimmy Margetson was back to his very best at Bromsberrow, reeling off four very classy wins. In the first three clashe,s Jimmy was in total control before being made to work very hard in a super last encounter. In that one, Holab Concepts Fantic pilot Aaron Colley led for five fantastic laps as Margetson worked his way up from an early 6th. Quickly slotting into 2nd, Jimmy then gradually reeled in Colley before making his move. In a class which also includes the talented Youth 125cc pilots, the young lads were certainly very impressive and right on the gas as Wildcard Jack Evans scored a fabulous 2nd in the opening moto of the weekend. Also right in the mix were Ollie Jewitt(4th), Fabian Junior(10th) and Oliver Bebb(11th). For the big boys, Will Turner was 3rd with his Midwest Racing teammate Wyatt McGregor 5th, Luke Newman 6th and Benjamin Sullivan 7th. Indeed, all those above pilots were to be ultra-consistent throughout proceedings, enjoying varying percentages of success.

Aaron Colley, 3rd in the 125cc class

Evans, Junior and Jewitt again posted top ten positions in Moto Two as Louis Perrin-Brown and Woz Boyce joined the party for the third clash. So, after a weekend of intense, all-action 125cc racing, it was Margetson, McGregor and Colley on the box in the main 125cc class and Evans, Junior and Jewitt the Youth 125cc podium takers. Proving just how quickly fortunes in motocross can change, Luke Newman and Linc Hasted, both overall winners during round one, endured a difficult Bromsberrow event! Newman suffered crashes in three out of four motos, injuring his left knee and ankle and feeling distinctly second-hand whilst Hasted crashed out of the meeting in moto one when holding 2nd spot. With Linc not scoring any Youth 125cc points, it means that Jewitt now leads the title race 15 points clear of Boyce. In the main series, Margetson has ominously now taken control as Newman drops to third behind McGregor.

Louis Perrin Brown grabs the final 125cc moto holeshot

What about those Vets then at Bromsberrow, well in a classic opener Jamie Dobson, Simon Lane, James Lane, and then finally Simon Lane again led the pack. As James Lane got the better of Dobson for 2nd, Lee Martin, Rich Meakin and Sam Callow were next up. On his big, old trusty Honda, Meakin was the fastest away in moto two, before Dobson and eventually James Lane took the lead. Proving that he certainly had his gating gloves on and starts dialled in, Dobson led the opening two laps of the Vets third clash before Simon Lane came through to score his second win of the weekend as Dobson, James Lane, Callow, Meakin and John Butler completed the top six.

The final Vets moto then produced plenty of drama as the Lane brothers passed holeshot King Dobson early on. Initially, it was Simon leading James, but at the end of lap five, Simon lost the front end of his Yamaha machine right in front of a surprised race control, thus allowing James through. Indeed, that’s the way it looked like remaining, but a very determined Simon had other ideas and was certainly not throwing the towel in! On the last lap and with one big, final effort, he caught and passed James for another great win. So, in the respective Vets classes overall winners were to be James Lane (O40’S), Simon Lane (O50’s) and Brian Staples (O60’s) with that being a particularly fine effort by Staples after he had crashed and suffered bad bruising to his forearm.

Clubman moto three action

In the combined Seniors/Juniors Clubman class, Kurt Talbot grabbed the moto one holeshot and thus led the contest for three laps before Reegan Rogers glided through for the win. Talbot had to eventually settle for 2nd spot ahead of Fatcat round one winner Michael Harbage, Leighton Price, Lloyd Clarke and Jed Reeson. Showing just how quick he was out of the gate, Talbot also led both motos two and three, only for that man Rogers to grab the win. In the last one, though, it was a different story as Matas Gaidikas led all the way as Rogers moved up from 8th to get home in 2nd spot. Also in the frame in this one were Jamie Needham, Harbage, Talbot, Markas Normantas and Reeson. So, overall victory in the Seniors belonged to Rogers, with Gaidikas and Talbot joining him on the podium. Over in the Juniors, it was a top three of Price, Lewis Day and Oliver Critchley. Indeed, Price proved to be a very worthy winner of that Juniors class, never finishing outside the top ten in all four combined motos.

Grace Richards the Women’s class winner at Bromsberrow.

Going back to round one, Lauren May Collingwood proved to be the main rival when taking on defending Women’s Champion Grace Richards. Unfortunately, though, Lauren was to miss the Bromsberrow event after breaking her arm, so it was now up to the likes of Amber McGregor, Hannah Jones, Erin Howes, Jaymee Garrood, Sasha Tollett and Sophie Jones to take up the challenge. Those young Ladies certainly gave it their all throughout the weekend, riding with great skill and determination, but Grace, though, was to again display just what an outstandingly quick and talented rider she is by winning all four motos at Bromsberrow and in some style!

Ladies runner up Amber McGregor

After taking the day one victories by well over one minute, she decided to adopt a very different approach on the second day of racing. In an attempt to push herself to the limit, for Moto’s three and four, Grace sat on the start line as the gate dropped, giving the pack nearly a full lap advantage before setting off in hot pursuit. On both occasions, she was still the first rider past the chequered flag. With Grace unusually doing the chasing, Erin Howes and Amber McGregor led the action whilst there was also to be a holeshot for Jaymee Garrood. In the overall standings, McGregor and Hannah Jones were to join Grace on the podium.

It may be very early doors in the long race for 2025 glory, but already in some of the classes a clear pattern appears to be emerging! Let’s see what happens in the next chapter of the story when it visits Brookthorpe in Gloucestershire for round three on the weekend of May 17th/18th.
