2023 VMXDN Foxhill – The Preview & Event info

It was massive last year, and it’s going to be gigantic this year… yep the VMXDN Foxhill is back for a second lashing of 2 Stroke and retro goodness, this fine August Bank Holiday 25th to the 27th.

The line up’s are once again cracking, which is the understatement of the year… so let’s delve in and take a look at the teams in the International race.

First up, the reigning champs the USA.  Last year the stars and stripes came, saw and conquered, but it was a close-run thing. Zach Osborne and Mike Brown return for the squad this year but Ryan Villopoto has pulled out, which has made way for the giant that is Tyler Bowers who will be riding the big 500. Zach will be better this year for sure, Mike will be on top form so that leaves a question mark over Bowers, but if he can be at the sharp end they could well retain the title or certainly be right there and in contention.

Team England came close last year with some heroics from the people’s hero Brad Anderson and Mel Pocock who made a great return to the sport. Ando is in fine form and Mel Pocock has a year racing the Revo British Champs so will be sharper and they are joined by a fresh and invigorated Tommy Searle who for sure will take some stopping. Could glory be heading our way this year? You have got to say we must be one of the favourites.

Northern Ireland look super solid again this year and they can be expected to be pushing towards the front with their trio of Gordon Crockard, Graeme Irwin and Nev Bradshaw.

Scotland are packing a punch with Bryan and Billy Mackenzie and Gavin Robertson, with their management team making a big push for glory in 2023.

The Rest of the World have to be contenders with Russian giant Evgeny Bobyrshev, Kevin Woutts and Yoshitaka Atsuta forming a strong trio.

From the regional squads watch out for Fairhurst Wessex with Jake Nicolls, Jamie Skuse and Keith Johnson, and Team Mercia with Elliott Banks Browne, Josh Spinks and Kris Keefer in their line up’s. I wouldn’t be surprised to see either of these on the podium at the end of the weekend.

The IOM team will be an interesting watch, with Enduro legend David Knight leading them, and being joined by another Enduro rider Daniel McCanney and James Lassu.

Throw into this mix Belgium, Finland, Latvia, South Africa, Ulster, Munster and an AMCA team you can be assured we are in for some great racing.

Prediction: 1st England 2nd USA 3rd Team Mercia

The brand new Wright Engineering Team race is set to be a phenomenal contest. Picking a winner out of this lot is going to be tricky, so I will pick six of which three of them I expect to be on the podium. The Stolen Brand trio of Kristian Whatley, Dylan Woodcock and Todd Kellett will take some beating, but then look at the Drink Generate / Store 114 team of Steven Clarke, Gordon Crockard and Scott Probert.  After last years performances Sam Nunn and Tom Grimshaw, backed up by Liam Garland in the JMR 101 team will certainly rank highly as will the Oakleaf Building team of Alex Snow, Shane Carless and Tommy Alba.

The Apico Factory veterans team have assembled a trio that can still haul in Jamie Law, Martin Barr and Matt Burrows and they will be towards the pointy end as will the Dirt Worx squad of Liam Knight, Jake Shipton and Sam Winterburn.

I do however feel the team to beat will be the Stafford Van Sales/Rob Hooper Racing team of current World Championship MX2 racer Taylor Hammal, the in form Charlie Cole and the always fast Carlton Husband.

The thing is all of the other teams also have fast racers in and there line ups and there are merits for each and every one.

Prediction: 1st Stafford Van Sales/RHR 2nd Stolen Brand 101, 3rd JM R101

Of course in addition to these classes we also have the Evo and Super Evo classes with more big names than you can shake a stick at…  so yeah VMXdN Foxhill 2023 is shaping up to be an epic, star-studded event with the who’s who of evo and modern racing and true international entries to give it that 90s Grand Prix atmosphere.

The racing is sure to keep you entertained through Saturday and Sunday and with a full program of entertainment from live music, Show’N’Shine bike display, classic Motovision videos, the European Yamaha launch of the 50th Anniversary model, rider introductions and two live Pulp MX shows, it’s incredible how they have fitted it all into the four-day event.
